Fun fact: the Portuguese capital was never officially changed from Coimbra. The kings and the court just sort of moved to Lisbon to be closer to the ports.
Besides, the events were:
>Make Brasil it's own kingdom, in union with Portugal
>Move the queen and the court to Rio because of the midget having a temper tantrum and the queen being literally insane
>Stomp the midget
>Bring King and the courts back to Portugal
>Make Brazil a colony again.
Which was a shitty thing to do to Brazil, so they asked for independence.
Also, this was at a point where Brazil was richer and had a lot better conditions than the US or the Anglo colonies.

just think about how much the balance of power has shifted from south to north and from east to west
and now ungrateful nordics claim southerners aren't white
how rude

The Spaniards try but they fail. Fructuoso Rivera our first president around 1832 was who finish the job. The majority of the natives was killed or run away during the war against the Empire of Portugal araund 1825 under the command of the General José G. Artigas. Spain never had much interest in this region, only for the port and to lock the Portuguese advance.

I don't know, anyways the Portuguese influence was very strong in this region. The first city in the actual Uruguay was fundated by Portugal in 1680 and called Colonia do Santisimo Sacramento actual Colonia. Montevideo was the first Spanish city in de actual Uruguay founded in 1730. So we got some of both.
