>>76055337
The right are the ones that believe in a ruling class. True socialists wouldn't judge on upbringing or family, there's a difference between judging someone on how they present themselves and judging someone on their family name, place of birth, occupation of father or college they attended which is the kind of genuine classism employed by the right.

I get the complaints from both of you but I don't think ideology should be governed by "the people who hold that belief are insufferable cunts therefore I believe the opposite". There are insufferable cunts on both sides, you probably just don't see much of traditional right wingers in the wild since you associate mostly with young people.

but what is the status quo at the moment? is it traditionalism or progressism?

personnaly (according to my experience), progressism (or whetevr it's called) is becoming the new status quo. And it's clearly not a good status quo for a healthy society.

maybe it's good for something like 10% of the population that is really poor but the rest are middle class and considered secure. so theyt up the taxes on the middle class.

And a few decades later, it crumbles because many people have had enough

The right-wing also expect you to work for them on zero hour contracts and with no social welfare safety net while living on the breadline.
The left expects a decent quality of living for everyone including those at the bottom, which yes does include moderating hate speech.

The right is indifferent in your scenario not because it cares for your freedom of speech but because it doesn't care about the inconvenience or hurt suffered from the "niggerfaggot"

Zero hour contracts are perfectly fine for groups like students or part-time workers. They also give the economy flexibility during a recession, would you rather a business simply fires 20-30% of its work force or that it transitions into part-time workers so that at least everyone has -some- kind of income?

Pick something else to demonise and stop being economically illiterate.

>with no social welfare
That's simply incorrect. It's as accurate to say that the Left wants to punish people for working and rewarding the lazy.

I'm on the right and I have no problem with social welfare so long as it doesn't disincentivise work.

We've taken in around 800 refugees since 2015. "hundreds of thousands of foreigners" is blatant scare mongering.
Not sure what cultural heritage you've seen decimated, there are so few refugees in this country you've probably never even seen one.

Trying to obfuscate between refugees and immigration is the kind of thing that has driven moderates to the right.

You are simply delusional, you're dishonest and you speak out of the sides of your mouth.

There's a reason the Left isn't a political force here, and it's because you are useless cunts who hate your own country and everybody fucking knows you do.

>There's a reason the Left isn't a political force here
Neither is anything outside of the centre. The most right wing man of any sort of relevance in Irish politics is literally a gay Indian globalist.

>If the Left had its way, we'd be working 80 hours weeks so Mubutuu and J'qwimbeh can live in their State appointed apartments.
Untrue. The left believes in manageable working conditions and a living wage. The left also believes at tackling the very wealthy at the top and not punishing the low to middle earners so the analogy doesn't fit. Multinationals paying 1% tax or less are the kind of thing the left puts pressure on, do you believe special deals like that are fair and just?

>If the Left had its way, the Irish identity would be eroded and destroyed and left as nothing more than something that exists on the pages of history.

Our country is already sparsely populated outside of the Dublin area. Many of the country towns would have withered and died were it not for the eastern europeans picking up the slack.
We've never even returned to pre-famine population yet, we could double our population in the next few years and still be below the european average for population density.
A lot outside of Dublin don't appear to appreciate how much of a barren wasteland much of this country is. Letting those country towns which serve as hubs for the deserted areas shrink and die is hardly going to be a good thing for Ireland.
>>

I'm speaking past tense since it's already happened. Both outward and inward migration in this country is huge which has left many midland towns especially filled with eastern europeans given how the vast majority of young people move to college cities and stay there to work.
Go to somewhere like Portlaoise and you'd see that. You might think it's awful to have so many non-Irish there but the alternative was for the town to collapse and die.

You talk about worrying for rural Ireland, go to Ballyhaunis and tell me what you see. The natives there hate it, they've become minorities in their own homes and the immigrants don't get involved in any local community. They've essentially turned a nice rural place into a backwater looking like something in Sri Lanka.

You've destroyed Ballyhaunis and ruined people's lives, much more than if they were simply to grow old.
>>
>>76057068
Most foreigners move into big cities though. The issue with rural depopulation can't be solved by bringing in outsiders since most of the land is owned by people who don't want to give it away to anyone except close family, only problem is their close family's fucked off to Australia.
>>

>forced them to emigrate
Untrue and emmigration continues today despite full employment. People choose to leave this country, it's seemingly part of our culture.

>we should be thankful that foreigners are willing to come here and destroy the fabric of our societies?
They come here because there is employment available which Irish people don't want. Businesses would collapse without them which typically wouldn't be great for your precious "culture".

>go to Ballyhaunis and tell me what you see
Would a ghost town be preferable?

I don't think you're too familiar with rural Ireland if you're saying something like. I'm talking about small to mid sized towns, not a village of 40 people in Healy-Rae country.
>>
>>76057539
>People choose to leave this country
They choose to leave because cunts like you bitch and moan about everything whilst changing nothing. The HSE doesn't work, those who earn less than like 18k a year don't get taxed AT ALL and the middle has to make up that difference. The cost of living is ridiculous because you've brought in a million fucking foreigners to drive up the cost of living whilst depressing wage growth and stressing national services like the health service.

>which Irish people don't want
Absolute and utter lie on your part. The Irish won't do them because they're not willing to work for pennies. It's ironic that you complained about business taking advantage of people earlier, yet now you're professing to support business taking advantage of people because it makes immigrants look good.

>Would a ghost town be preferable?

generalisation and false in most industries, in this country at least.
Look in any fast food place or supermarket and you'll its filled with foreigners. Virtually all cleaners in every organisation are foreign. All working minimum wage jobs for big companies with a global reputation.
Very few of the foreigners here are even illegal anyway, this isn't New York. Anyone from eastern europe can just walk in here and work away.

There's no such thing in this country. A busy town in Ireland is a moderate sized village in most other countries. In England they have towns bigger than Galway or Limerick and a village called Ecclesfield which is more populated than Kilkenny city.
>>
>>76058203
Just speaking from experience.
>Look in any fast food place or supermarket and you'll its filled with foreigners.
I go in plenty and there's one or two, mostly Irish people though and I live in Dublin.

You would hardly call a town of 10,000 an urban area would you? Urban is cities and suburbs. Rural is countryside and towns.

>Look in any fast food place or supermarket and you'll its filled with foreigners. Virtually all cleaners in every organisation are foreign. All working minimum wage jobs
The trick is that you have to keep them isolated from higher paid jobs by making Irish a requirement and thus creating a new upper-class in the country consisting of solely rich Irishmen and a lower-class consistient of poor foreigners
>>
>>76058337
You mentioned farmer land ownership as a barrier which sounds like very strange issue to raise. If people are moving out of an area there is likely to be housing available. The idea was repopulating an area with a dwindling population, not expansion.

If you're the same person, I was just wondering why you seemed to be opposed to it, though I guess you were just being contrarian.

Marriage is a cultural institution our society seems to view as something to aspire to and currently offers benefits unavailable in a civil partnership, there is no logical argument why civil marriages should be prohibited to people just because of their sexual orientation and I'm glad they're not.
>>

Benefits pertaining to marriage are meant to incentivize men and women to marry and have children though.

Absolute disgrace is what it is.
I for one think the good people of Dublin should have a nuclear power plant in their city.
Deciding whether the people in the North or the South of the city are more deserving of one, will be quite the challenge. If possible we should build one for both.
>>
While I'm personally not opposed to nuclear power, I genuinely don't think we need it. We've barely scratched the surface of our renewable energy potential on this island.

Up until the 1930's we did too. Just look at a pre-1930's map of the Irish rail network and compare it with a modern one. But then some idiot Minister for Transport in the 1930's thought that buses were a far better idea despite out woefully underdeveloped road network.

The decline of our rail infrastructure sort of made sense. You can't justify every little town and village having a station, it's not economically viable and the demand isn't there. I'm sure it was also unfeasible for the transportation of commercial goods once trucks took off.

Trains are far more energy efficient for hauling large amounts of cargo and can also be more cost-efficient if there is enough demand. Plus, if you have a good spread of depots, you won't have big lorries clogging up the main roads. You can instead use smaller rigid-body trucks for local deliveries combined with a smaller fleet of big lorries for the larger cargo items.

The map is a bit crap, there's a line to New Ross on that too which has been closed for years. The spur in Louth is the Drogheda to Navan line which is only used by freight going to the Tara Mines now.
>>76065924
Some of it was justified, but some areas like rail around Cork city and the Portadown to Derry line should have never been closed.
>>76066059
>Transporting freight by rail is so much better though.
It is if you have a lot of it, that's why the US has one of the best freight rail systems but a shit passenger service. The problem here is that we're a relatively small island with few large industries who move freight, although Irish rail have fucked with the network too by severing port connections and removing older freight depots, all we have now for freight is the Tara mines and some wood and pharmaceutical produce from Mayo, which as you said later is economically better. It also helps the road's cost, we've saved a lot on repairing regional roads in those areas with freight.

A big loss to Irish rail freight was the closure of of the Sugar Beet and Cement factories - they made up a huge chunk of the cargo transported by rail in Ireland. Containers were also moved by rail to the ports as recently as the late 1990's.

>we've saved a lot on repairing regional roads in those areas with freight.
Very good point. Some regional roads and towns have been destroyed by the amount of heavy lorries that pass through them on a daily basis.
>>
>>76068922
>They're still open?
Yes, they might close soon though. I think they produce one of the highest amounts of Zinc in Europe.
>A big loss to Irish rail freight was the closure of of the Sugar Beet and Cement factories - they made up a huge chunk of the cargo transported by rail in Ireland.
Yep, that really made the freight network contract, and some lines like the Waterford to Rosslare line relied on the Beet trains to be somewhat viable.
>Containers were also moved by rail to the ports as recently as the late 1990's.
They were, but then Irish rail fucked around with a load of the ports and severed their connections to the network, only Dublin and Waterford ports are still properly connected by rail. Irish Rail run the Rosslare port and they severed that about 10 years ago by moving the station 300 m away from the terminal, and some others like Foynes and Sligo lost their connections over the last 25 years.

Apparently there are only 2 passenger trains a day each way on the Waterford-Limerick Junction line these days and that's it. From what I'm reading, that used to be one of the busiest freight lines in the country due to the Rosslare-Limerick connection and the connection with Cork via Limerick Junction.

>Irish Rail run the Rosslare port and they severed that about 10 years ago by moving the station 300 m away from the terminal, and some others like Foynes and Sligo lost their connections over the last 25 years
Decisions like that just make me angrily perplexed.
>>

>Apparently there are only 2 passenger trains a day each way on the Waterford-Limerick Junction line these days and that's it.
You can thank Irish Rail for that too, in some cases they used to run at times that suited themselves rather than customers, that seems to have stopped though. You also have severe underinvestment in the rail network and some of the speeds on the Limerick to Waterford line are testament to that. Letting a private company potentially bid for a service might make it a bit better by running a better service but the main problem is the shit infrastructure which makes the trains slow, infrequent and unreliable. I think the old Cork port used to have a rail connection too, the new one in Ringaskiddy will probably never get one.

You hit the nail on the head there. For instance, no train will get you to Cork (the second city of the goddamn country) before 9am, which is ridiculous.

What pisses me off most about Irish Rail though is how they make their timekeeping records seem better than they are. At the stations you'll see signs boasting about 95%+ of trains being on time, which conveniently obscure the fact that the company has a very generous definition of what counts as not being on time. And this is on top of the fact that their listed journey durations are usually 5-10mins longer than what the journey can be actually achieved in. For instance, Dublin to Cork with an average number of stops is said to take 2:40, but based on experience I know it can be achieved in 2:30.
