Yes it would change things, /pol/ is a fast board and that place is their designated place for their type of threads. What do you think would happen if that place got axed? You'd get the full force of that board spread here and have 10 times the /pol/ content. Containment board doens't mean magic barrier that somehow prevents its members from using more than one board at a time, but it helps reduce it a lot, especially because of, again, /pol/'s speed.

That was for gamergate, something easily spottable that is vastly different from the rest of that board's discussion. Much like how threads that have ''cosplay'' or ''waifu'' in the OP post go into autosage by default, not that you'd ever see the latter's discussion ever going away no matter how much mods try.

We're talking about regular /int/ threads which are just a milder version of /pol/'s. Not just OP posts (the noticeable ones) but also threads that start off tame and then get /pol/-tier replies. You cannot do that.
