>What language are you learning?
I estimate my Spanish to be B2, maybe B1 on a very good day, but it's been on hiatus for years now so I probably won't improve further.

I estimate my German to be A2 (or even less), but that too has been on hiatus for years now so I probably won't improve further.

I want to learn Estonian, and I have sufficient material for it, but I probably will never have the discipline to do it. Instead, I'll continue being a lazy fuck who accomplishes nothing, and then probably at some point I'll kill myself. Pic related is how I feel when I think about my own laziness.

>Help people who want to learn a new language!

Learning German. Just recently crossed into my third year of self-study. I feel really good about myself.

Tell me your practice routine, /lang/! I pretty much just read books and that gets me all kinds of vocab, formal and informal aspects of speech, and varying types of sentence construction. BUT despite reading nearly fluently I talk and write like a caveman since I know literally no one who speaks German and I'm an awkward loser who won't find anyone.

Are there good resources besides grammar books (which I loathe with a passion) to beef up my written skills? I venture into /deutsch/ threads sometimes but they're not too helpful (it's just shitposting) and that interpals website seems like Tinder International edition so useless for someone like me.

>Was it hard for you to learn English?
No. Your pronunciation is utterly retarded, though, but you get used to it when most of your your entertainment (movies, tv series, music, games, the internet) is in English. I tried reading pic related last night and it was horrible.

Finnish also doesn't use the consonants Q, W, Z, X, C.
B, F, G are used in loanwords.
>>
>>75969018
my only gripe with english was being native in a language with vowel harmony and having to get used to breaking the harmony for example mispronouncing words like automatic because it has both front and back vowels. its extremely counterintuitive for a beginner.

>the most difficult part is their fucked up grammar with thousand cases and endings.
They are mostly the same as prepositions in English. Out of the 12 commonly used cases, or endings, 6 deal with location.

I'll give examples of the 6 dealing with location using the word talo (house).
>taloon (into a house) -> talossa (in a house) -> talosta (from a house)
>talolle (to the vicinity of the house) -> talolla (in the vicinity of the house) -> talolta (from the vicinity of the house)

The first three are used for indoor places and the second three for outdoor places. Let's do that again with the word puisto (park).
>puistoon -> puistossa -> puistosta
>puistolle -> puistolla -> puistolta

It's not """fucked up""" if you familiarize yourself with it a bit.

Most Europeans are used to prepositions and they are completely unfamiliar with noun cases, that's why they find Finnish terrifying.

the cases are rather straightforward and have no exceptions, the hard part is memorizing root word morphemes for all base words and those can be pretty random.

Provincial cities:
Đà Nẵng is nice, the best city i could offer in Central Vietnam. In the south, Cần Thờ, Biên Hòa and Vũng Tàu are biggest cities and probably the best out of southern Vietnam. The North, i can only think of Hải Phòng, but maybe you could try Hải Dương and Ninh Bình, i don't know much about them.

Islands:
Phú Quốc is our biggest island, it's in the ongoing development, so there're a lot contructions there. Côn Đảo is smaller, but i think it's more peaceful.

Nature:
Check the northernmost, it's our minorities zone (Nungs and Hmongs and shietz), there's mountains and jungles everywhere.

>all these cases and endings are very specific and it does take time to learn how to use them properly
True. Finnish is like a triangle when it comes to learning the language. In the beginning you need to study a lot of grammar in order to construct sentences that make sense, but once you get those basics down there isn't that much left besides plain vocabulary. English, on the other hand, is the opposite. You can start stringing words together quite quickly but it takes a long time to master the language.

For example the sentence "I like you" in English is just three words in their basic form put together. In Finnish the same sentence would be "Minä pidän sinusta", where "pidän" is an inflected form of the word "pitää" (=to like) and "sinusta" is an inflected form of the word "sinä".

Finnish has a relatively small core vocabulary, though, since we use a lot of derivatives and compound words. For example the Finnish word for "employee" is "työntekijä", which is a compound word formed from the words työn (of work, työ = work) and tekijä (doer, or one who does). Kirja (book) is used to derive a lot of words like kirjasto (library), kirjain (a letter of the alphabet), kirjaimisto (the alphabet), kirjailija (an author, someone who writes books), kirje (a letter), kirjasin (font), kirjata (to log/register/document, whatever) and probably a dozen others.

Interesting question: What are the fastest growing languages? Might be interesting for someone who wants to learn useful languages.

Number 1 would definitely be English, but we all speak English here so that's irrelevant.

Otherwise you have French which will explode in Africa.

Other than that, looking at birthrates, Persian will grow because of the sky-high Afghan birth rates. However Iran has incredibly low birth rates, surprisingly enough.

Arabic will grow steadily, especially through the Iraqi birth rate and countries like Egypt, Jordan and Yemen.

Spanish, Turkic languages and Hindi/Urdu will experience moderate growth too.

hey m8, I mainly use howtostudykorean.com. It's grammar heavy but I find is an awesome way to get a good grip on how the language works so you can actually understand it rather than recite random phrases. Interesting.

Just the other day, I thought he was really sad about something and it turns out he was calling his family to tell them about our wedding plans :( I guess the excitement was so great it got stuck in his throat and didn't make it all the way out :?

Not even. I can go buy an AR-15 from the store down the street without a holding period or background check.

Why are so many people learning Norwegian? It's not spoken by many, and doesn't have a ton of media like Japan or Korea
>>
>>75975708
Because there are articles saying it's the easiest language for English speakers and Norway is a rich country.

English/Anglo R is rather vague when that sound could be an Alveolar Approximant, Retroflex Approximant, Alveolar Trill, Retroflex Flap, or Alveolar Flap depending on where you are.

Thor and Ragnarök is Norwegian though so not going to do that.

What do you want me to read? Just something random?

It has probably more to do with the way one speaks than the language. A middle aged woman nagging about some inane shit is probably never pleasant to the ears, no matter the language.

Korean, been studying for ~10 months, an hour a day, around A2 level.

Russian, through books and Lingvist, A2 writing/speaking, B1 listening, B2 reading.

I guess that's doable if you have motivation and/or a good reason. I started learning Esperanto about two months ago and I barely manage 5-15 minutes a day. Then again I don't really have a good reason to learn it besides the fact that it's the only productive thing I do daily.

هل تتكلم العربية ومنذ متى بدأت دروسها وهل هي لغتك الأم؟
>>
>>75977354
Esperanto is pretty unmotivating because although it's easy, it has no culture or history you can immerse yourself in. I can watch kdramas like the biggest koreaboo all day. I love how the language sounds.

Pick a language you can immerse yourself in
>>
honestly better off learning a programming language

let's say you learn a moderately difficult language at B2-C1 level, spend about 1500 hours on it (just a guess, have no clue how long it'd take).

If you had spent all of that 1500 hours slaving away at Java, you'd be able to land a great job earning a good living

no language offers that
>>75977354
not really productive considering nobody speaks it
>>
>>75977105
>but don't think that's enough to make me learn.
doubt you'll ever learn it to the level where you can read russian literature, otherwise that's absolutely irrelevant language

Too much effort 2bh, immersing myself in a new thing that is. I'd much rather just post here and record vocaroos and complain about my lack of motivation.

I guess.
>>
>>75977513
earning a good living is much more likely to land you a foreign qt than speaking her language shittily

get a job good enough to pay your bills and start saving anything you can. invest in real estate with it.

How can you connect with her on a
deeper and emotional level without even attempting to speak her language
And speaking her language shittily opens you up for cute language and cultural exchange situations

I'm Bulgarian so Russian is very easy for me, reading is the easiest since I can guess stuff from context. I read random stuff I find like articles or have text conversations with Russian people. I just had to learn a few of the most common words and the understanding went up drastically

Thanks, that's an interesting link, but I should say it's not Syriac per se (in that sense), the current language is just very similar and partially descends from it.

There are speakers of it from the country you're in, of course.
