Nice thread. Going to post in *nglish because someone else might want to share. Don't know if this has a tradition in other countries other than iberoamericans. For us this form is called PAYA, with fixed forms that the singer has to accommodate to. This is a quick search I did to bump your beautiful thread:

Apparently la decima only exists in Castilian. It was invented in Spain by Vicente Espinel, but la decima has desapeard from that side of the Atalntic a couple of centuries ago. Now days, it exist in all of our countries; from Mexico to Chile.
