It's true, I work in a hotel and get lots of European tourist. Germans, Austrians, Swiss, Czech, Poles and also Japanese all do it, a lot of them seem to think it's appropriate wear for Australia because need to look summery, it's pretty dorky but I always giggle when I see it.
