This is the /int/ meta

how do we make this board less reddit tier?

unironically a shit tier board atm. was decent 2+ years ago.

1. /int/ was never good.
2. It's still the best board on 4chan.
3. It was not better two years ago.
4. I don't know what is "Reddit-tier" because I never browse Reddit in the first place, unlike you, hence you have to go back.
>>
>>75804196
1. ban every general
2. replace them with language learning generals like DJT (there will be like 15 generals max due to popularity)
3. introduce stricter moderation and ban off-topic threads
Now /int/ is a proper place to learn a language, and discuss culture in all other threads, just like how the board is intended to be
>>
>>75804614
>not being here for banter and generals

Generals like /cum/ or /fug/ should not exist though
>>
>>75804695
>Generals like /cum/ or /fug/ should not exist though

Yes, I agree. They add no value to the board since they're just a combination of different countries with no cohesive culture present, so it just devolves into a shitty circlejerk chatroom. Plus they overlap with existing generals, and they go against >>>/int/rules/2 . The number of generals are steadily rising over the years (Dixie, bant+ausnz, cum, fug, hell, and a few more).

If it goes past 50% of the board I think a containment board is necessary (or the mods can kick them out to >>>/bant/). The main purpose of generals were places where you can practice your language with natives, but now that's being abused so banning these fake generals is a good start.
>>
>>75804196
Banning all generals, and banning all "blog posts". You know exactly the type of posts I'm talking about.
>>
>>75804196
We should add upvotes, that way quality content is pushed to the top of the thread and low quality content is hidden.

Why do you believe this?. i find that boards that arent explicitly about doing some activity are infinitely more shit then boards that are about hobbies(and the further removed from generic nerd hobbies the better)

why do you think /int/ is good?
>>
>>75804196
Removing all generals which aren't dedicated to language learning would be a good start.

We must discuss the final solution to the /general/ problem.

Generals infest the entire site to the point where we have boards dedicated to generals, how did we get here?

I think it started on /v/, I may be wrong, the problem was originally that people would make threads about dota2/lol periodicly and because those games are a loveitorhateit thing and people who play them play little else, so people got buthurt. Those threads were known as general threads.

Now we can identify the problem, a subcommunity had formed and it had embedded it self on the board, it's not like those people were not on 4chan before, but the new identity had emerged because they had a specific thread to congregate in.

From there, I believe, the concept spread and people started making subcommunities on other boards, to the disdain of the rest of the community.

The solution is far from clear, different generals desire different degrees of contact with the rest of the site. Some are open, others want isolation.
>>
>>75810938
The issue is one of size, some generals find themselfs lacking lifeblood and degrading into namefaggotry and socialspace degeneration, while others maintain a healthy user base and remain on topic.

For generals to stop being cancer the following needs to happen.
1) No more /general/ boards
2) Generals are tagged as such on creation
3) Generals can be filtered
4) Every board has a personal limit on how many generals it can have
5) Generals have a separate bump list (they can only push out other generals on creation)
>>
>>75810938
the dota, lol and sc2 (and that mentally ill katawa shoujo general) generals on /v/ devolved into circlejerks which is the staple formula we know now. generals were banned on /v/ briefly but the general losers kept on making them regardless until janitors logged off so moot mage vg as a compromise. big mistake

More people come to /int/ for the generals than for the actual content of the board. In fact there are people who only come to /int/ because of their homegeneral and have it automatically highlighted in the catalog.
>>
>>75804196
can somebody explain what is the actual point of /int/?
It can't be political discussion, because there is /pol/ for that
It also can't be international banter, because there is a board for that aswell
>>
I started coming here two years ago and it was exactly the same, only Australians were forcing different memes then (twenty buck fuck etc)

OP is suffering from a classic case of Delusional Oldfag Syndrome is all.

It's for discussion about different aspects of culture and living from various parts of the world. /int/ can have music threads, literature threads, geography threads, history threads, hobby threads, food threads, all together without issue. You could go to another board for most of these but it's much harder to get a discussion going about things that aren't translated or aren't popular outside of the Anglo-sphere. /int/ only seems useless because its potential is completely wasted on the userbase.

Hard to say if there were as many or more or fewer
country generals back then but /cum/ certainly did exist and it was up every day, same for mämmi, balk, ita and pretty much any given country general that we have now that I can think of. Besides that there were bantz threads, Australian memery, /pol/ parody threads about how no one is white etc . Summa summarum the overall feel and type of content of the board was the exact same, if 2015 came back you wouldn't even realise it browsing int

Then why not politics thread? It doesn't make any sense, since specific boards also exist for all the topics you named
>>
>>75814399
Everybody discusses politics and news here anyways.

>1. /int/ was never good.
>2. It's still the best board on 4chan.
>3. It was not better two years ago.

Correct.
The real solution to the problem of /int/ is just walking away.
Half the people here are pathetic teenagers without friends and the other half is NEETs and weirdos in the 20s. There's no reason for anyone to be here, what you need is IRL friends. And no, it doesn't give you prespective on other cultures, if you were really interested you could learn a lot faster and better from other websites.

Also browsing 4chan in general indicates mental illness. Why would you browse a place that embrases gore, disgusting sexual fetishes often including pedophilia, transexuals, mentally ill predatory homosexuals etc.
Be the chance you want to see, leave this place and get help.
>>
>>75814450
4chan is shit but while shit it is still the best forum online when it comes to freedom of thought and speech. Sure, there are freaks on this website, and I've been here long enough to encounter more than a few of them, but I also encountered many nice posters who had interesting thoughts and sometimes a good sense of humor.
>>
>>75814450
>Why would you browse a place that embrases gore, disgusting sexual fetishes often including pedophilia, transexuals, mentally ill predatory homosexuals etc.

These are only contained in /b/ and their respective porn boards, with the occasional leaks. I bet if you ask /int/, only a small percentage are unironically any of those
>>
>>75814450
>Why would you browse a place that embrases gore, disgusting sexual fetishes, etc.

Because it shows it's a free place where speech is not constrained. The whole website is a more honest place than social networks, normal forums or real life itself; it allows higher quality feedback, funnier memes and better self-expression.

I never browse any kind of NSFW board anyway.
>>
>>75814450
people here are honest, and i can say my opinion without gettin too much shit no matter what it is
