Why would anyone learn Japanese?

You know that Japan has a very high cost of living (you are expected to tip your landlord a month's worth of rent too),
INSANE working culture (you are expected to stay at work until your boss leaves, you are expected to go out eat after work with your co-workers, etc)

Sure, Japanese history is cool, you might like Japanese women, Japanese nature may be pretty, but how will you ever enjoy any of that when you're wage slaving your life away 60+ hours a week just to afford to live?

The only person who should move to Japan is extremely rich white people; who don't have to work and are seen as the best kind of immigrant.

This may be true at the beginning. One prospective learner of Japanese might say, "Oh, I'll just learn Japanese so I can enjoy more anime/JRPG's/Manga/other media."

That's all fine, but anyone who seriously undertakes the task of becoming fluent in Japanese knows that it's a multi YEAR process, and if you do become good enough (which statistically is extremely rare; most people who undertake a new language don't make it to fluency).

After that same hypothetical student does make it to fluency, by some miracle of pure dedication, he will almost certainly want to use that valuable skill in "real life", outside of his original reason for learning the skill for his own media entertainment.

In other words, if you ACTUALLY become fluent in Japanese, you will certainly want to put it to good use, which means moving to, living in, and working in, Japan. Which, for previously said reasons, is not something you should do unless you are already very rich.
