Indeed, it's a classic.
The book is a critique of communism and dictatorships, especifically the Soviet Union. It's set in a communist totalitarian England, ruled by the "Big Brother", after a revolution, much like the Soviet Union, but more dystopian.
It´s not long, and it's an easy read. Like the japanese said, it's also influenced culture, so i´d say it's required read

Also you guys gotta read Brave New World, its a critique of capitalism and happiness trough consumerism
