Now, what would Eastern Europe look like if it wasn't for the communism? I can say for sure that in the interwar period Poland was developing at a very fast rate, considering the country has not existed between 1795 and 1918. I doubt, Poland was lagging behind Western Europe culturally and mentally, we would have never caught up with them (and we never will). Also, we had a big problem with hostile minorities - Germans, Ukrainians and partially Jews.

The second thing - economy. Since communism in Poland was more liberal than in the USSR, Poles could move abroad, to earn money and build houses in Poland. The best neighborhoods to live are these from commie times, the modern shit is completely unlivable.

So, even if communism wasn't the best system, it did have some advantages we can see even today and I like them very much (especially strict urban planning).

The country you mentioned, that is Spain, still managed to improve after Franco's departure from the mortal coil AND despite Basque minority. Well, if you want your country to catch up with the west, you need to work harder, unfortunately. Anyway, Croatia will have a great future I believe, when muslims take western Europe, Turkey and Egypt over, you will be the only safe Mediterranean place to spend the holidays in.

We've been through recession since 2008, and the first growth trends showed in 2016. 8 years of stagnation. I'll tell you this, we've just NOW reached the level we were at in 2008. Imagine what could have been with this small country if our growth continued (in various degrees) from 2008 until today.

We're a safe tourist destination and I hope one day we'll be regarded by westerners as a safe destination to immigrant. I don't wish for floods of people, but something that will keep us in the plus population wise, with an all around European mentality (despite people here believing the European mentality equates to loving "fags and hags", dressing in drags and embracing Islam)
