Don't know about Punjabi much, so I'm not going to speculate.
BTW Linguistically, some of the samoyeds (and Ob-Ugrics!) have such thing in their language as dual. This is missing basically from all other FUg languages, expect saami (at least in some dialects). Do you know what I'm talking about? This dual has given a lot of speculations over the relations between samoyeds and saamis. Also the traditional reindeer herding, which all of these people do for a living. This thesis has not been proven convincingly, but the questions is still up. If someone would prove a straight connection between samoyeds and saamis, then very many things in our Uralic family would get a clear answer. Like, for instance, why is that mentioned dual missing everywhere else among finnics but still IS in saami.
