My mom's an immigrant and worked her ass off to go to college and get herself out of poverty while my brother is being a lazy shithead and failing his highschool classes. I've also noticed this trend with my extended family who live in the US.

Damn I'm mexican and I feel your pain. I've had to deal with seeing my community have a disastrous attitude towards things. Over use of welfare, big families, formation of gangs, not giving a fuck about anything, and claiming mexican nationalism above all else. I would say 60-70% of mexicans in America don't care about being here. 20-30% are actually decent people, but it all has to do with the corruption and attitude developed in Mexico. People just don't give a fuck. It's crazy, but I'd love to see a non-violent Mexico because it would be great and people could live well without having to immigrate.
