I think it's a myth that Finnish is somewhat more archaic than Estonian. These languages are just developed differently. If we take it as a scientific fact that Uralic languages come from the same proto-language, then you have to compare all the other Uralic languages as well. And they are all different. Just with certain similar characteristics.

i think trade is the magic ingredient. saamis are quite isolated. finns, regardless of never really being in any major trade routes still had enough to transform their language so it became different from yours. estonians were quite big in hanseatic league for example and our location is good for trade so our language changed the fastest

Well, all the Finnic languages actually are very similar to each other. As is udmurt and komi to eachother, hanti and mansi to eachother.
But the biggest differentiator has been probably just the fact that there have been always much less Finno-Ugric people than Slavs. Small groups of people get further and further away from eachother and the language is in a constant change. I guess.
