It was mandatory in my school but I had wore it before 8th grade only, than me and most of my classmates stopped doing this because it was ugly and uncomfortable shit, also it was our teenager protest not to wear it.
Uniform was black trousers, white shirt and green woolen waistcoat. You had to wear this woolen shit even in the summer.

I liked my elementary school uniform desu, it was dark green pants with a white polo shirt that had the school colors on the collar, above that a gold-ish brown vest, and on top of that if it got cold a sweater (cardigan i guess would be the proper term).

It was super comfy.
