Well it's probably best, republics and direct democracies aren't exactly the best systems logically. Voters of different parties kill each other over things they disagree with, it is naturally a system of separation and dissent, not unity. It's why you can't get things done. Plus it's more stable because of that. If monarchs were resurrected today to lead Europe, it would be a little bit better imo.
