Just be warned they're not as easy to handle as chickens. Most breeds can fly away easily so you'll need to keep their wings clipped. They also don't produce as much eggs as chickens. My ones had this nasty habit of spilling water from their drink container, then digging through the wet soil with their bills, then drinking again making the water filthy in a matter of minutes.
If you ever do go through with it though I recommend the Khaki Cambells. They're too fat too fly and they make more eggs than any other type of duck. Also spend the extra €10 on getting an adult instead of a ducking, otherwise you might end up with males.

Not anytime soon, as much as I don't connect with the attitude it does definitely seem as if long working hours and low free time or personal freedom is culturally preferred by the Irish. In every job I've ever been in the prospect of being forced overtime has been seen as a perk for the extra money while I would see it as a pain for the loss of time. I've actually known people who are furious at our law of only allowing them to work 60 hours a week. I have no clue what reward money is to someone who works all day every day but there are certainly people like that.
