With how communism works it's basically impossible for them to compete with capitalist countries when it comes to development. So more than likely they will never be first world.

Well, China is fucking big and has a billion peasants. North Korea is isolated and nobody invests in North Korea. Vietnam is getting a shit load of investments.

Never, their demographics point to them becoming old before they become rich. As western demographics deteriorate and the economy begins to shrink they won't have anything to offer the west, typically developing nations become wealthy by producing things for the west, but if the west is no longer buying then they're screwed.

There's also the race to the bottom, as soon as they become wealthy capital will flow to a cheaper country like Cambodia, Laos, or the Philippines. There's also automation, factories will probably begin to move back to western countries to save on transportation costs.
