US marines came ill prepered for the winter in norhern Norway, something the russian media has noticed. Some of the things the russians write:

>The American navy soldiers froze as they practiced near the Russian border, writing the Russian army's own newspaper Zvezda.

>Are you coming to our borders this way, Ria Novosti asks, as questionable, whether the US Marines had tested winter equipment in Florida or Hawaii.

>What a ridiculous failure. They have come to the Arctic to freeze or to be eaten by polar bears, writes Vladimir Byzkov in Radio Sputnik, who recommends the Pentagon to send its soldiers to a warmer place next time.

>Fluffy and shameful, writes Rambler.ru and adds that "Russian soldiers are the best".
>>
yeah this totally sounds true and not like some Kremlin bullshit

wtf I think the American military can't afford jackets for their soldiers now

American soldiers seem like they don't know what they're doing. Like they all just joined the army to get that 'hero' status in their home country even though all they do is sitting in their military bases playing poker all day

Nope

Well they are here protecting a part of the anglo clay. Even Churchill knew that back in the days that Norway is anglo
>>
>>75099309
Not so bad, was staying at the time with distant relatives which is better than being a spastic tourist and they looked after us pretty well. Moscow was kind of 'meh' just another big city, though I did get to see some of the things like Red Square, Kremlin and so on which as a westerner where pretty exotic growing up.
St Petes was as good looking as I imagined, though once get out into the burb's, its fairly grey and miserable- like almost another country just sprang up beside it.

No, everything is only getting worse.

fucking awful uniforms on everybody. I wish militaries still had some taste when it comes to this stuff.
>>
>>75099928
We maintain bases on the Antarctic friendo

>>75099848
Myself no, but I have an acquaintance on it. I still fail to see how training would change anything about not having proper basic equipment
>>
>>75099786
They need to take care of vehicles, gear and logistics etc. which is more challenging in the cold

But it's been speculated that theyre not here to train and the real reason is they want to establish a permanent base in Norway. Personally I don't understand why they don't just train in Alaska. Alaska is the same environment but bigger. They don't need us for winter training.
>>
>>75099996
Because its not about the equipment.
You're making the assumption that people know how to use the equipment, maintain security, when to eat, how to navigate, maintain a weapon and offset any common ailments like frostbite, snow blindness, altitude sickness and keeping warm.

That kind of assumption gets people killed. In the military we train people to the point they can do that shit in their sleep, you can read about it all you want, but the real crunch comes down to putting it into practice, because if you don't you really have no idea about how it would go.
>>
>>75099983
>aesthetics before function
>brits in charge of camo design
>>
>>75100171
Everything on the OP makes it sounds as if the Americans' failings were due to not having the proper equipment, not about not being used to the environment
>>
>>75100248
Its an 'in between the lines' thing
Its actually about the Russians talking shit in their media about stuff that probably didn't happen.
>>
>>75098519

>>
>>75100312

>>

>>
looks all good and fine
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKvvIIjQNwc
>>
>>75098606
It's actually true. The equipment they used was tested in Californian mountains, which obviously does not compare to the Norwegian Finnmark. However the Russian media puts a negative spin on everything, while the very purpose of the excercise was to see what works and what does not work in such harsh conditions.
>>
>>75100416
>russians have a massive inferiority complex towards USA
no, it's just pure butthurt, no inferiority complex.
our inferiority complex is towards yurop.
>>
>>75100146
They can go fuck themselves. Norway shouldn't be another Okinawa.
>>
>>75098606

The British didn't had any training to fight in Norway, while the French were trained to fight in such condition but...didn't have straps for their skis during WW2.
>>
>>75100642
Nah, modern military equipment is tested in all ridiculous conditions, including freezing it down to -100°C or under influence of radiation etc.. It doesn't really matter. Every tank and vehicle has a decent heating system. Fighting in the cold has never been so easy as these days.

What matters in the end, is the support of the frontlines. This is a logistical thing. Nato never lacked in these terms.
>>
>>75100146
>>75100725

It's because of the Ukraine invasion done by the russians. The americans was invited by both Norway and the muh heritage people in America who don't want to see their beloved country gone to the wolves

Because we pay nearly 4% of our GDP, which is more (in ratio, not gross) than the 2% all NATO countries are obliged to pay.

Something like only 4 of the 28 members pay 2% of their GDP, Germany not included. If you truly care about NATO logistics, pay the goddamn budget. Seriously. The USA is threatened only by Russian nukes. They could annex you, Poland, and the Balts tomorrow and the USA wouldn't particularly be affected.

The Dutch parliment has been calling for defense spendings increases for years. Our government keeps saying yes and then proceeds to cut the budget anyway. They had been doing this for years. >>
>>75107649
You don't "pay" to Nato, retard. You pay with your taxes to your own military. And in our case we already spend more money than most other countries. We don't need fucking 2%, especially if you look at Nato alltogether. Who should be the big enemy who starts a fight with? It simply doesn't exist.

You spend 1.19%, which is far lower than your fair share. You have no excuse. You are one of the richest countries in Europe, one of the richest in NATO, and one of the prime benefactors of the defensive alliance (alongside Poland, the Balts, and a case could be made for Turkey).

>especially if you look at Nato alltogether.
No shit sherlock, that's because we're paying 3.7% instead of 2.0%. We would love to cut the military budget down to half and spend that money on welfare, education, and services. Sort of like how your country is now, because it's freeloading like a goddamn leech.

If you think you are organized and experienced to contain Russia on your own, fine. We can pull out and slash our military budget down to a tenth of its size, enough to deter our enemies (we have quite enough of those) and protect sea trade. We don't need to station boots in Poland, Estonia, Germany, etc. if it's your opinion that you don't need us.

We'll see how that goes. Meanwhile perhaps we'll spend that money on single payer healthcare as we watch you lose yours (from having to squeeze areas in your budget to pay for your own military).
