Well there are 19000 cities in the usa so it's not too much, but I can imagine some cities with a lot of blacks and mexicans being very dangerous (more dangerous than a lot of 3rd world countries) since everyone has guns in the usa.

We have a really weird Puritan past with lots of crazies. Circumcision is so commonplace because they wanted to take the fun out of sex. There were even people like Sylvester Graham who made Graham crackers because he believed the blandness of them would lower people's urge for sex.

I was at a Gamestop around the time that the new WWI Battlefield came out and I overheard a conversation between a cashier and a soccer mom that made my blood boil. Soccer mom had a copy of Battlefield in her hand and she asked the cashier if there was nudity in the game. The cashier said no, but explained that the game was very violent and gory and not appropriate for someone younger. She told him she didn't care. She told him that as long as there wasn't any "sex" in it, it was appropriate. The cashier then asked how old her kid was.
