SF is as expensive as NYC. LA is a bit cheaper but not by much.

If you are from Midwest or the South, you would need at least twice the income to have same standard of living.

San Diego here.

Life is mostly good, most of San Diego is pretty based. The areas east of downtown are dangerous and should be avoided. The other areas surrounding downtown range from being ghetto to middle class. There's lots of stuff to do, so it is a bit touristy. The areas outside of the city are mostly residential areas with not much going on.

The best part of San Diego is the weather. Aside from this year, which had an unusually high amount of rain, it's pretty much always sunny and warm with a cool breeze.
