'll tell you what classical music is, for those of you who don't know. Classical music is this music that was written by a bunch of dead people a long time ago. And it's formula music, the same as top forty music is formula music. In order to have a piece be classical, it has to conform to academic standards that were the current norms of that day and age ... I think that people are entitled to be amused, and entertained. If they see deviations from this classical norm, it's probably good for their mental health."
Frank Zappa
>>74870719
Bipolar folks scare me, just being in the same room as them is like walking on egg shells and autists can just be wreck the heads a lot of the time. Not saying PURGE ALL MENTALLY ILL. I don't have to be their friend. I'm about tolerance, not being everyone's buddy

Explain? It's not like bipolar people go crazy and turn full psychosis or get violent. It's not like they're even anyway sensitive. Why do you have to walk on egg shells?

Are there really that many Poles?
>>
>>74872919
I don't know about Dublin but there are lots of Poles in the country. It's the second most spoken language in the country but it that comment is over exaggerating it and not the norm. Sounds like it's just a couple of spots and whatever school he went to.

Poles are great. We all get along fine and we're well used to them now. Great bunch of lads and ladies desu.

>>74872877
Does it physically affect you badly?
>>
>>74870780
What time is your flight? What country are you going to first?
>>
>>74873112
Yeah. It's debilitating. Lose feeling and mobility in my leg if it's cold and get tendonitis and carpal tunnel in my hands and feet making it painful to walk, which had caused other injuries to my knees, back and abdomen. Also makes it difficult to concentrate or remember stuff and makes you feel physically exhausted, especially my arms, from the smallest amount of exertion. Makes your hair fall out too.

Don't think my doctor believes me though. Had it for nearly 2 and a half years at this stage.
>>
>>74873347
>Don't think my doctor believes me though.
Wouldn't it be blatantly obvious if your doctor just did a simple blood test to check your levels. I've had it done several times for my thyroid and other stuff.
Sounds horrible anon.

Yeah the bloods are normal but the symptoms are persisting. It's frustrating alright.

I thought he was Irish with a burgerflag?

There much to see in Ireland? My dad went on a missionary trip because he gets to boss nuns around at work and said it's miserable and boring. I'd still like to visit and tick it off the list.

A decent bit but the issue is you have to essentially tour the country to get the best of it, staying in one place won't offer you much.

Reached that stage of the night when I'm looking up psychology again.
>>
>The alternative is to endure living with the absence of the persona—and for Jung "the man with no persona... is blind to the reality of the world, which for him has merely the value of an amusing or fantastic playground." Inevitably, the result of "the streaming in of the unconscious into the conscious realm, simultaneously with the dissolution of the 'persona' and the reduction of the directive force of consciousness, is a state of disturbed psychic equilibrium." Those trapped at such a stage remain "blind to the world, hopeless dreamers... spectral Cassandras dreaded for their tactlessness, eternally misunderstood".

That's a stupid Fr. Ted meme that hasn't been true since the 90's.

Those gobshites in Donnybrook, with liberal encouragement from the government, would love nothing more than a chance to host a publicity stunt for the country.

They have been relatively subdued about the whole thing so far, for obvious enough reasons of course. Don't want to be seen as the one sticking the knife in his back and all that.

Believe I read an article a week or so ago about some party insiders saying that the party hadn't been this polarised in decades.

Christ why do people keep pestering me about drinking and doing other social shit. I hate drinking because anytime I've gotten drunk before,I just get depressed and I also hate being around drunk people since I find them unpredictable. Just fucking leave me alone. I'm happy living my life of solitude, why do they have to keep intruding?

>inb4 they care about you

If they really did, they'd leave me be where I am happy. They just want me to be like them or else they'll be perceived as being weird for being my friend.

All the customs involved in social life annoys me. I don't despise normal people, but I hate the way they socialise. I would like to find a girl someday but I don't want to find her pissed drunk on a night out. You'd think with all our development as a country we'd grow out of this alcoholism but it just seems to eat worse as the generations progress.
>>
>They just want me to be like them or else they'll be perceived as being weird for being my friend
Sounds a bit paranoid. Maybe they just think your behaviour is a bit distant or dismissive of their attempts to include you but you're right to put your foot down if it involves something you find uncomfortable.

Can be ostracizing though when a lot of socializing in this country is done involving alcohol.

I'm not a Catholic but I definitely believe in Catholic schools. Mixed schools are shitty for boys since they have to compete with girls who are more mature than them and hence "being a boy" becomes borderline taboo because teachers find girls easier to manage. It's also proven that unisex schools have worse performance than single sex. I think Christianity can teach children a lot. They don't have to believe in God,but some Christian teachings and morals are good to have during life.

Really wish I had the option for educate together as a child. I never understood the concept of atheism in primary school but I knew I detested being taught religion and didn't gain anything out of it. It was a waste of time and energy and left me distraught and worried because I wasn't able to understand what was proclaimed to be the most important thing in the world.
The least we can do as a society is to provide the option for parents so nobody is forced into subjecting their children to that nonsense like I was.

>>
>>74931945
Learning religion in a regular school was a waste since it was just watered down Bible stories. Learning religion in educate together schools is a bigger waste of time since they spend even longer telling you about all these different watered down stories with an allegory about racism or some bullshit.
>>
>>74932135
I wasn't arguing for keeping it though, I was just pointing out how what you said and cried crocodile tears over isn't actually a thing
paint a picture for me of your religion classes so, because I'm in utter doubt that the teacher read the summa theologica to you and scolded you for being a little retard and not fully comprehending the work
>>
>>74931945
The least we can do is get rid of it altogether. It's immoral to indoctrinate impressionable children into a faith based belief system from a position of authority like an educator. There would be a demand for some sort of religious education but that can be satisfied by an opt-in "extra-curricular" activity that takes place outside of school like a Sunday school.
>>
>>74931945
I don't really understand the point of the Educate Together as the organisation itself, why do you even need the patron? Could the state not be the patron? I could well be wrong on this but they seem to be an organisation who leech funds and want to install their own ethos on the children rather than no ethos. In some areas like Donegal it would make sense in some cases to have neutral schools as in tiny villages you have two small schools which split resources to have Catholic and Protestant schools, when it would make sense to merge them to stop the split and just let the churches use the school outside of school hours.
>>74932028
I think the teaching nothing isn't exactly good either as you should be teaching something, I noticed anyway in 6th class that you don't really advance much relative to 5th class, part of that is due to Confirmation, although some of it is just messing around for the last month or so too in primary school.
>>
>>74932028
>>74932135
And they did teach religion in religion class. We had a religion book full of fairytales, we read bible passages, we had guest visits from nuns and priests. We had to learn beatitudes off by heart and everything we were told was law and had to be believed, we never discussed any of it or were allowed any room for alternate theories or for the point of view of disbelief to be legitimate in any way.
We endured first confession, communion and confirmation along with a school mass twice a year at christmas and before holidays.
The world seemed like such a dark place when I believed all of that to be true and that I would somehow have to come terms with it. It was such a relief in secondary school when we talked about atheism and the freedom to believe in anything that makes sense to you, it was like a weight was lifted although I still felt angry at the years of lies.

In Primary school? There was a curriculum so I'd imagine it was the same for everyone. Our textbook had various stories, I remember one about zacchaeus the tax collector or the usual stuff like loaves and the fishes. Just these general tales that end with Jesus solving whatever problem is presented.
I remember having to learn commandments and beatitudes and we were given extra homework if we didn't know them.
It was normally taught in the half hour before lunch which I presumed was because if the priests or nuns wanted to drop in that they'd do so at that time when they'd expect it to be taught. Whenever they came in we were told to just sit back and listen, they were mostly so old and mumbley I had no idea what they were even saying.

Pretty similar to me, I didn't get the beatitudes though. The visits from the priests were infrequent as there was two schools in my town and one of them was next to the church and around where most of the priests lived, so they went there more often.
>>
>couldn't try harder to tip your fedora could you more sanctimonious bollocks give yourself a break
I'm not in anyway against people who choose the path of Religion. Both of my parents are religious and my brother was an altar boy. It just isn't my beliefs and I don't believe children who are too young to consent should be indoctrinated.

>>74932520
I didn't like it, teachers were very strict on behaviour whenever we left the school so it wasn't much fun. I remember for the confession we were told what sins to confess because none of us had a clue what it even meant to "sin".
Confession and Communion meant losing your saturday to a school event. While the gifts were nice it was again thoroughly confusing at the people telling me that it was "the start of my spiritual life" and what that was supposed to mean.
>>
>>74932765
they'll be indoctrinated with something else instead though, through the school system or without
you're of the belief that people shouldn't go to school at all until they CAN consent then so, whenever that should be?

The issue for me was that what was being taught in religion made no sense to me and my questions on it were shot down and discouraged to the point where I was made feel stupid for asking them when in every topic they were encouraged and aided my learning.
In hindsight I realise it makes no sense to anyone and the teacher was annoyed by my questions because she would lose her job if she answered them honestly. But that isn't something you can expect a child to realise.

what questions specifically?

did it not occur to you that the primary school teacher hadn't ever studied theology in their life and wouldn't be able to do anything bar sticking to the curriculum, not being capable even of addressing a query from a primary school child that blindsided them
Depending on the question you asked what answer would you have been contented with if any, and putting yourself in the position of the teacher (who I assume taught you all your subjects as mine did) what answer would you have given, knowing next to nothing about the subject
