What's to defend?
Australia IS European.
Probably the greatest European nation of all times.

I will not. When the contest is supposed to celebrate European diversity and everyone sings in English, you've already failed and there's nothing worth defending.

Australia is an island above russia?

European Broadcast Union, that's what the show is based on and also why you see Morocco in yellow in OP.
Everyone in dark blue are eligible to participate and everyone in light blue can supposedly too, now that they allowed Australia.
Lebanon and Tunisia have had teams working to make a entry as well, but it never came through. China and South Africa have also flirted with the idea on occasion.

Australia was an exception, they've been an associate member for 30 years so they allowed them. If you don't pay your dues to the EBU, you can't partecipate.
Is australia going to win this year by sending an abo?
I doubt any euro country can top an abo
>>74768706
>tfw haven't qualified in years
why do europeans hate us so much
>>74777366
Because we keep sending shit. In the past four years out of countries who regularly send acts only us and Macedonia have failed to make a final, even fucking San Marino got to one. The year before that period we got the spoon in the final. We have to change the approach of selecting candidates or we'll go nowhere, preferably removing RTE having any role on picking the candidate from now on as they don't give a shit.
>>74777366
You're better off out of it. It's currently an embarrassment.
>>74778021
The acts we send don't seem to be anymore atrocious than the typical act so I'm still a little confused. e.g. the blonde girl on the piano with the mannish voice, or your one who dressed up in the quasi-Celtic stuff
Either somebody with connections will choose the song, or else it will be given the public - but the demographic who would tune it to vote is hardly the same as the continental eurovision demographic so we'd still fail to qualify.
>>74778951
Here's the block excuse again that whoever trots out our song will bring out again, sure they're an advantage but because half the countries don't even vote in a semi that makes its effect far less in those. The other thing you said is them being a typical act, nothing stands out with anything we've sent recently which makes it hard to make yours memorable, and it doesn't look very good then. In recent years the only unique enough acts we sent were Dustin who nobody outside of Ireland really understood and Jedward who actually did good. There's other isolated countries like Israel, Australia, San Marino, Iceland, Azerbaijan etc. who are relatively isolated but manage to qualify for the final too, sure some of them get novelty votes and a slight block advantage but it isn't just that Ireland likes different music to everyone else in Europe, and they listen to the same stuff.
>>74775196
I would give my "doce puntos" to some idol band and/or vocaloid
>>74768706
>Turkey not participating
Why is that? Their songs are really good?
>>74779651
I'd vote for them too desu.
What percentage of people watching Eurovision watch it here? It's probably like 0.01% or something but it would be cool to see us all vote for them if they made it and try make them win.
>>74779433
I wasn't talking about blocks, just that our demographics are different (older) and that we fundamentally don't "get" it - I know I don't. The fact that Dustin got booed was a bit of an eye-opener, I think other countries take this shit a lot more seriously than we ever did.
If we voted on our entry again the people who would choose it would be the same kind of people who tune into the Late Late Show and it would probably fail again. Also we obviously don't feel like spending much money on our entries, as is it seems to be just a handy gig for somebody who's connected.
>>74779853
>I think other countries take this shit a lot more seriously than we ever did.
Because most other countries are irrelevant or have an irrelevant music scene, and Eurovision is their time to shine and show their country in a positive light. Though when they're all singing in English and producing basic pop stuff then it takes the magic away.
>>74779853
>I wasn't talking about blocks, just that our demographics are different (older) and that we fundamentally don't "get" it - I know I don't.
Shit, that's a really good point, most people here who watch it are old, I probably wouldn't even be watching it if my grandmother didn't, she got me into it, that makes us send very different acts, while across the rest of Europe far more younger people watch it. Arguably the only act we sent that young people connected with was Jedward after they did well on X Factor or something similar, which meant younger people actually knew them, and as I said they actually did well. Dustin possibly could have done well but it was basically an in joke for Ireland, if you were a casual viewer who didn't know about Ireland's history in the competition the song wouldn't make much sense and you'd see it as Ireland saying fuck it even if that was the attitude here to an extent too. I remember Lithuania sending a joke song about them winning the Eurovision and it got to the final, they got booed but finished 14th overall. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DBAdOlQPbwg
>If we voted on our entry again the people who would choose it would be the same kind of people who tune into the Late Late Show and it would probably fail again.
And that's the problem with our audience and selection process again, as mostly older people watch that too, and as you said RTE are too involved and either just pick someone themselves or pick a few and give us a "choice" of which well connected person to send, it's a problem when they don't give a shit. I don't know what else we could do to select a candidate though, it would have to be in some method that younger people voted too and wasn't just a closed shop for RTE connections, ideally RTE should be removed from the process. If this continues we might end up like Slovakia and not send anything most years if this continues.

I tried watching it for a while last night, I am no /pol/ack but the amount of flamboyant faggotry and degeneracy was just too much. No wonder the eurovision is so popular in scandinavia.
also, why the fuck are people singing in english?? Just sing a song in your damn language you idiot, 99% of the songs are the same romantic-pop shit anyways, if at least they were in their native language it would be a bit more interesting.
