I was born in Pasadena and lived in Southern California for 90 percent of my life.

people came to California in the mid 1800's for either the ports of SF, gold panning towns out in the mountains, or both. Originally SF was the capital, but they moved it inland to be more aligned. Since Sacramento is smack in the center of I-5 and I-80, its perfect as a crossroads for anyone going through the state

LA on the other hand was nothing until like 1918 when hollywood started cropping up, with people only moving there on the promise of cheap land and orange groves. LA didnt experience its boom until the 1940's with the war manufacturing calling for thousands of workers to man the shipyards
