They could have won if they didn't juggling themselves to protect 100,000 civilians in pilgrimage and isolating all of their potential allies was a good idea. The Maratha Empire was largely despotic unlike the Durrani empire which came in with plenty of allies due to good relations.

The first two were unsuccessful. The third one was where he fought the Maratha's and won.
