In general, countries that love dairy products hate milk, and vice versa.
This is because a high incidence of lactose intolerance is what drives the need for dairy products; processing the milk to make cheese removes the lactose. AKA why cheese cultures only come from southern Europe (the brits adopted it from the french).
Also why UHT milk is common in south and east europe; they tend not to drink much fresh milk anyway, so they don't care about the shitty taste.
