I miss the RTÉ puppets. Other countries had cartoons but we had the strongest puppets in Europe. That was the 90's. The Eurovision audience has changed since then, it's younger and a lot less into tradition or heritage. We should look at what Sweden are doing since they're in the top 5 virtually every year, the other Scandinavian countries do very well too. They mostly submit dancepop or electropop songs. Things like Avicii is what is dominating at the moment.

I fear with Macron that he's not going to take any of the concerns that most Le Pen voters have and will not make the "alt right" meme go away, and if he doesn't do anything there's a good chance that more might flock to the "alt right" candidate in the future.

UK are in trouble now since it's clear the EU is a united and strong force. The power players of France and Germany seem united but they wouldn't share that with the Eastern Europeans and the Mediterranean counties, who aren't united with France and Germany on all the issues regarding this, even the richer Benelux and Scandinavian countries will have concerns. The sane alt-right want mass immigration to stop and ethno-nationalistic patriotism to resurge, while the insane alt-right want mass murder of non-white people and an eternal Nazi reich of race worship.
Neither are going to be allowed, and it's debatable whether the first thing is something that can be prevented or undone at all, in terms of bringing together will and incentive to do it.

It is true that if all this migrant/Muslim stuff wasn't happening, nobody would get so riled up about it in response, and the right wing would be more "reasonable" (not that the left will ever respect the right). But that's not something that would serve the interests of the institutional left and the apolitical institutions in bed with them. I think that's mainly due to shit planning policies we had during the Celtic Tiger and are creeping back now where people live hours away from Dublin in places like Gorey or Drogheda and are gone for most of the day, due to this nobody ever really interacts with anyone in the town to form a community either, and that just mostly leaves the scumbags who are the only people who go out during the day in the town to make the place shit, and people who commute usually buy shit in Dublin so the local economy doesn't even benefit much from these people sleeping in the town.
