It's an ironic critique of westeners' shallow and consumistic approach to culture, expecially eastern ones. The problem is that the author himself used out-of-context quotes to make a hit song to win a tv contest, therefore becoming the same thing he criticizes. I still appreciate the effort despite the lack of self awareness.

And people tend to vote for the songs in the 2nd half because by the end of the show, they have forgotten the songs in the 1st half.
