Here's my map of favourite places on google.

Anywhere in Prague 1 is a great starting point, you can still be in the middle of the fun and avoid tourists.

There are some nice clusters of bars just off Pariszka and another near the national theatre.

Honorable mentions for Zizkov, Karlin, Andel and Vinohrady as other places to live too.
