That's the thing about Monarchs, they don't do anything other than charity events and ceremonial duties, it's basically just a head of state that the entire country can rally around because they don't do anything that can piss you off, usually they do shit that makes you like them such as serving in the military.

Wilhelm II abdicated almost 100 years ago and he was first and foremost the King of Prussia, now that Prussia is gone and Germany hasn't had a king for a 100 years, why would they suddenly want to change it? Not to even mention that the current pretender to the German throne is pretty much unknown to the majority of the public

I would be more interested in Austria, considering that the last Emperor Otto Von Habsburg was quite popular and a known public figure until the end of his days, but since that his son hasn't really had any publicity

After Franco a lot of people continued to support the second republic, specially in the left wing.
I unironically prefer the king though. It's role it's basically as some sort of special ambassador able to regulate the democracy if anything were to happen.
If we could vote a president of the republic I'm sure we would put another corrupt retard in there that achieved it's position in the party through connections and without the most basic preparation like speaking foreign langauges. At least this way the guy in charge had an appropiate education.

Spain was poor and weak long before the second republic was established. And the only countries that have ever been superpowers are the US, USSR, and arguably the UK.
>>
>>74452246
The support here in Spain went to shit when the king abdicated, the heir got promoted to king and they and every important political party decided to ignore the masses that wanted to have a vote and having or not a monarchy. Even national TV didn't show the people grouped in all major cities.

The USSR had bases in Germany, nuclear missiles in Cuba, satellites orbiting the earth, and the ability to destroy any other country at the push of a button. You can't compare 18th century Spain to that.
>>
>>74457216
Obviously any 21st century country has technological advancements that far outstrip 16th century ones. You have to analyze these things proportional to their time, and compared to other countries in the world during its lifetime, USSR was hilariously irrelevant. the same can't be said for historical Spain, especially when there was a Spanish pope.

The whole point of the term "superpower" is that it was used to describe 3 countries that had an unprecedented ability to project power worldwide (then just 2, when Britain collapsed in the 40s and 50s, and finally 1 when the USSR collapsed in 1991). You can't separate that from technology, technology is what gives the term any sort of meaning.

The matter was decided by one of the Swedish courtiers, Baron Karl Otto Mörner, who, entirely on his own initiative, offered the succession to the Swedish crown to Bernadotte. Bernadotte communicated Mörner's offer to Napoleon, who treated the whole affair as an absurdity. The Emperor did not support Bernadotte but did not oppose him either and so Bernadotte informed Mörner that he would not refuse the honour if he were elected.

>Hey Monsieur Napoleon, would you mind if we take one of your shittiest marshals as our new king? Yes, the very same guy you've been trying to get rid of lately

According to the latest polls only 8% of the Dutch population wants a republic.

20% wants more power to the King.
While 16% wants less power to the King.

That would've been rather humorous, Swedes attacking Russia only to go back home with their tail between their legs again.

Yes, I'm sure it would've been. Now if we're being serious Sweden did have a couple of opportunities at which it could've attempted to retake at least portions of its former territory.

We almost ended up with a prince on the Prague castle, except that he would have become president.
We also are calling him 'the sleeping beauty' except that he is neither pretty, nor a Kolowrat.
But that is as close as we have ever got. And our monarchist are not really helping, wanting either the restoration of Habsburgs, which is bordering treason, or for UK to lend us Charles, once the Queen skips over him in favor of William.

Technically all Dutch ministers have equal powers. And the King and one minister together can sack the other ministers, the parliament, take control of the army, mayors/police and judges.

Is this the power of common core?
The most powerful nation in the world after World War 2 (the USA) fought a crypto war with the USSR for almost 50 years which almost culminated into a nuclear war BECAUSE the USSR had global influence. Nowadays Russia has close to none global incluence I gotta admit, but then again how important has Spain been since the loss of their empire?

Napoleon had conquered us and turned us into a monarchy.
It worked pretty well.

Because the Dutch republic was as more bureaucratic than today's EU, with politicians from each region going home to their own province to discuss things before every vote. The democracy is in our republic was so bad that we even gave corporations governmental powers because they did a better job.

So after Napoleon was defeated we decided to get our own King. Who could make quick decisions if needed.

>>74466883
No, William of Orange is William the Silent.
>>
>>74467027
During republican times we also had like a dozen armies because each state was doing their own thing.

there's also some Italian faggot claiming to be the descendant of some bastard daughter of Carlos I

if we restore the kingdom we should just take a Spanish Infanta our Queen since the Spanish Monarchs are descendants of the 2nd Dynasty, the best Dynasty to ever rule Portugal

The people of a nation can somewhat effectively elect a group of representatives to simplify discourse and reach political consensus. The public can DEFINITELY not elect a single sovereign as head of state, that shit does not work.

Originally. Not our current one.

But he was de facto the King already anyway. Because he led our troops against the French and everyone just listened. And the ministers and senate listened to him as well.

After all, he was descendant from the founder of our nation.
