Southern California is very down south it makes sense they consider Bakersfield northern lmao. Central Valley is like living in the Midwest it fucking sucks. Bay Area/Silicon Valley is pretty awesome even with the liberals although it's stupid expensive to live there. Southern California has a lot to do, but I wouldn't live there gets too hot and I wouldn't want to be a minority. Well yeah, Central valley, Bay Area, Sacramento, Jefferson are all different from each other and we usually use those terms more, but if you asked us what NorCal was we'd say at least everything north of Bakersfield.

It really isn't that bad, I don't know how anyone stands the desert or valley. It's even hotter and literally nothing to do besides drugs or offroad in the desert.

It's still segregated, you'll see minorities sure but as long as you stay away from the really ghetto parts and aren't involved in any crime you'll be fine.
