We only aided that. The Pakistanis we're already training and aiding the Afghani Mujahedeen and the Arab Mujahedeen were completely funded and supplied by the Gulf. The whole thing started when the socialist had a bloody coup and then cried to the Soviets (who were reluctant at first) for help because they awoke a hornets nest (the country had far right conservative groups). When the Soviets finally got involved it became a shit storm as Jihad was declared. Basically the Afghani socialists started the whole shitfest and Soviet intervention made it worse.

During Soviet era, we build roads, schools, hospital, factory, outlaw child marriage in Central Asian stans. As soon as USSR collapse, they revert to being useless medieval savages.
