Hi /int/, I'm really motivated to learn a language but I'm hesitating between Chinese and Japanese.
The main advantage that could give me the desired direction depends on how this language is going to evolve in the decades coming. Any advice is appreciated if it has a good justification.

Learning japanese was a mistake now everyone calls me a faggot for greeting them ごきげんよう like cmon I'm just practicing here.
But to be serious, the hardest part about learning a language is sticking to learning it for the rest of your life. You will have to put in effort at least 10 minutes(never gonna make it tbqh) to an hour of effort every day just to make sure your brain doesn't forget what you learned yesterday. Picking a language where you can have more fun learning it makes that bearable. That was why I dropped German (6 months in) in favor of Japanese (2 years learning now). Couldn't find good German entertainment for me to get immersed in. The touhou animes just did it for me.

Okay I'll try with Japanese, I won't be able to choose if I don't start practicing

Take a month or two to practice both languages and see which one you like more because both their structure and sounds are quite different.
Also remember that any of those languages will require a lot of your time, so take motivation into consideration, do you like Japanese media or Chinese media? Stuff like that.

Learning a hard language that lots of people already know will not help much. What if your company needs someone who speaks Farsi but most people learn Arabic or Spanish?
It is better to know an uncommon language then a common one for work.
