The better question would be why we do not use Fraktur any longer.

Danes used scripture based on Roman Capitalis Monumentalis, Germans used Fraktur. Danes won because (i'm not exactly sure) it's easier for printing.

Old Norse in Latin Script was the most phonetic a Germanic language has ever been due to specific letters like œ, ö, o, ę, etc.

Runes are actually really cool, there are a few common celtic words that had their own Rune symbol, and a large portion of them are different kinds of trees: Yew, Oak, etc.
Pretty cool that they placed such a large significance on different types of trees as they must have been up there with the most used words in the language, shows a link to nature that we have lost today and gives us some idea of what their lives must have been like.
The old Turkic alphabet also used a lot of Germanic runes.

Latin unification during the printing press era was the worst thing.
Even slightly different South Asian scripts and considered different scripts on computer, but for European scripts it's just "fonts".
Too bad
