well, usually different countries keep their populations separate, once they are a part of a bigger political entity, the populations start to mix with each other thus creating a patchwork of ethnic enclaves and usually after a region liberation from the said entity the place plunges in inter war

here's the kicker -- not even this is good enough.
for example, bigger cities have muslims in the center (since ottoman times) around the city are serbs, but since cities are more dense, the green outweighs the blue.
it's true that muslim aren't the majority, but there are a lot still.
