FF is a broad party, but the Nationalist wing definitely wants to pull SF into their orbit. An FF/SF coalition would pass for the nationalists in the parties, but the mere mention of Gerry Adams drives the old and rural voters into the arms of FG.

Both FF and FG are trying to bait the other into entering a coalition with SF in the hopes it destroys them for the next election. They're the least enthusiastic about reunification of all the major parties (barely half of their voters support it, as opposed to like 90% SF and 75% FF). They're Europhiles to the point where it hurts (although FF have no backbone when it comes to Europe either).

Fine Gael is the party that supported partition and the one that the Southern Unionists joined.


The only mainstream hope the country has is the right/nationalist-wing of FF. If the National Party has its way, they'll cordon off that section of the market (and try to grab conservative/low-income nationalists who support SF).

FG are the party for big business, FF are the party of every-day business, and SF are the party of no-business.
