Out of all these currencies, I have been to Ireland, Poland, UAE, Macau, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Japan.
All the Australian, Canadian, and other coins with the Queen on it got into my possession simply because here in the UK people don't pay much attention, and these coins are in circulation along with our own ones.

Because of this in honor of a banknote in 1 ruble, our money is sometimes called the bunnies

Well with the money it's easy: You have 2 Pesos
As a tourist you will mostly use the CUC (Peso Convertible) so you can trade it back and forth to €, $, £ at any CADECA in Cuba
>1 CUC is always worth USD 1
and the moneda national aka the CUP that can't be changed back and is no worth the paper it's printed on outside cuba
>±25 CUP = 1 CUC
and it's mostly used to buy cheap stuff like sandwiches or buy stuff in the government stores outside of the touristic areas and to not get scammed. Often they will write 1 Peso so it's 1 CUP for the "in the know" and 1 CUC for the stupid tourists...

5 times in Cuba, as a vacation? Seems you had a great time there. No problems in getting CUP? Can you buy stuff with CUC bills in non-tourists locations or is it illegal for actual Cubans to exchange CUC for CUP?

>>74273437
That's a lot of them. Is it true that they'll be no longer valid after October?
>>
>>74273892
Yep. They will become worthless, but it looks like some banks will still be accepting them for few weeks after the deadline.
>>
>>74273648
I can never seem to like the current coat of arms. At least the flag is kinda unique.
So you had people worth to be put in a banknote. At least you don't have your current president in the banknotes, like other ex-USSR countries now.
>>
>>74273892
>The same number?
Yep.
>I'm still fine. nothing too much to say, aside for finding more 5F coins for less than a dollar.
Nice looks like you have a endless supply there.
>How did you went from social worker to chef? Is it more stressful now?
Oh got that wrong, I still work as a social worker just I'm now the boss of a entire boarding home, Director or what ever you want to call it. Only things that sucks is I can't sleep in till 10 anymore.

>5 times in Cuba, as a vacation? Seems you had a great time there.
Yeah well I often just flew over for 3-4 nights as the flights from Madrid where so cheap there was no reason no to go.Comfy Island, still unbelievable cheap to stay, stunning beaches, pretty much everything you want. A fucking bottle of Rum goes for 1 CUC...

>No problems in getting CUP?
Not really, you can get CUP at the Airport trading your CUC but I just get some CUC and go to a paladar (restaurant) buy a beer and ask for the change in CUP... (they will still try to scam you but not as hard as the CADECA guys kek)
>Can you buy stuff with CUC bills in non-tourists locations
Sure but you have to do the math and avoid scams also there're some places that will only accept CUP like small supermarkets or drugstores that are owned by the government. But you will always find someone that will change your CUC to CUP. In the larger supermarkets where you actually can find "western" stuff they will only accept CUC.
>or is it illegal for actual Cubans to exchange CUC for CUP?
No it's not illegal for them to have them but they will have to change them back to CUP too to buy stuff from CUP only stores (that's the place where you get the actual bargains) Else it's the country pretty much runs on 2 currencies at the same time and most stores/restaurants will have 2 prices, moneda national and CUC at the usual 25 CUP = 1 CUC rate.
>>
>>74274234
>At least you don't have your current president in the banknotes, like other ex-USSR countries now.

A boarding house for foreign kids?
So it wasn't much of a planned travel. But I saw you didn't have CUP coins, why is that? And thanks for the explanation, I always wondered why tourists who go to Cuba bring CUP and CUC notes if CUC is supposed to be used by tourists.
Did you brought some cigars? I remember those things being dirty cheap.

>A boarding house for foreign kids?
No it's actually a boarding school for special needs kids. I got 84 employees (ranging from social workers, house keeping, chefs, teachers...) and 62 kids to take care off, so it's pretty chill. I run this show...
>So it wasn't much of a planned travel.
Pretty much, I just enjoy the place and hey a snowboard weekend in the alps is more expensive then hopping over to Habana.
>But I saw you didn't have CUP coins, why is that?
Because you can't buy shit with CUP coins. Most are used by scammers as "valuable memorial coins, gimme CUC for it" or nobody cares beside the 50 centavos that you only need for the 12.5 CUP Softdrink. Beside that everything is priced in rounded 1 CUP prices. Only chance to pick up some CUP coins is to buy stuff at a small market. The coins have a higher scrapping value then purchase power.
>And thanks for the explanation, I always wondered why tourists who go to Cuba bring CUP and CUC notes if CUC is supposed to be used by tourists.
No problem, well once you go off the beaten path you will need some CUP as the whole system is a mess. But hey cuban people are 10/10 super friendly guys so you always find a way to pay for stuff.
>Did you brought some cigars? I remember those things being dirty cheap.
Sure, I smoked so many cigars over there and brought 50 Cohibas back home. You can get cigarettes for 0.50 CUP over there but the quality cigars are still expensive and at least in habana there's so much scamming going on with them so you rather pay a bit more to get the real deal. The locals do their best to ruin the awesome Cuban cigar reputation by selling shit tier stuff for top tier prices.
>Are you planning any upcoming travel?
Got a 6 week trip to Hongkong, Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand coming up in fall and a crazy euro trip in the summer. Might add a few weekend trips as I have so much StarAlliance and OneWorld miles saved up.

>That would explain it. And would explain why is more common to see CUC coins than CUP in local markets.
Yeah I mean if you imagine that 1 CUP is worth 0.04 USD Cents there's no value in the coins. you just throw them away round to the next even number or melt them...
>How much was one cigar? I think I saw Cohibas here for $2 each.
I got some Cigarillos for 5 CUP, the Cohibas I like Siglo IV and VI go for something like 3-7 CUC per Cigar but that is still cheap as here I would pay 20-30 CHF for one.
>Vietnam and Cambodia sound fantastic. Don't get too crazy on Thailand
Gonna be super comfy, I just hope Cathay let me upgrade to first class for my flights using my vouchers so I can get a perfect trip. I go to Thailand for some sightseeing and beach island hopping. I got this. A 10cent Dutch guilder.

When Sony and Philips were talking about how big the hole in a CD would be, some engineer from Phillips suggested that it would be as big as a Dutch 10 cent coin. And that's why a 10 cent coin fits on the mm in a CD disk. Now you have even more useless information in your brain. But you can't even remember the phone number of your grandma.

I'll post some more notes, it's 3am and I'm bored.

France 5 livres 1793, Austria 1 gulden 1858 and -66, Cuba 10 and 1 peso(s) 1896, Argentina 5 centavos 1884.

What should I post next, any suggestions?

France 50 livres 1792.

I like assignats, they're usually very cheap and very old.
>>
>>74317487
Where do you exchange those coins for others?
I hope the thread can last that long.

Those are pretty nice notes. I've seen the 5 cent Argentina before, but I can't remember if it was too expensive.
Even if it was from late 1700 could be cheap? Never saw one of those before, was that your oldest banknote?

>What should I post next, any suggestions?
Any neat coins from the Americas or Asia? Any old Swedish notes?
>>
>>74317922
If you have any old Chilean coins or notes, post them.
I really like the eagle design.
>Those are pretty nice notes. I've seen the 5 cent Argentina before, but I can't remember if it was too expensive.
I paid 20 euros for it if I remember correctly.
I only have 3 banknotes that are worth more then 100 euros, expensive doesn't necessarily mean interesting or beautiful.
>Even if it was from late 1700 could be cheap? Never saw one of those before, was that your oldest banknote?
Yes, France printed huge mounts oof these assignats back in the days of the revolution so they became worthless.

my only old Swedish note is the one that I posted earlier, i have some from 20th century but nothing very old.

I'll post some Asians then.

I'll post some Chilean stuff, but they aren't too old. What Eagle design?

> expensive doesn't necessarily mean interesting or beautiful.
That's true. I've been never too fond of spending too much in a single coin or note, as I prefer the cheaper and more interesting stuff.

Get me a minute for the pictures.

I have some pins and a commemorative medal made from scrapped Soviet spacecraft. It was given to my mother by a cosmonaut in 1991.

The coin itself weighs almost nothing which I thought was pretty cool. On the reverse side is Gagarin

These are the oldest Chilean stuff I have. The Banknote one of the first series of the Central Bank issues from 1942. Nothing too old, it can cost up to 10 euros, but somehow is guy gave it to me for 30 cents.
The earliest coin is from 1853, those cooper coins on the right. And some silver coins from late 1800 with the Condor on the back, except the biggest one from 1927

>>74318362
Always liked Chinese cash. Not important or rare enough for the Chinese to make fakes of them.

>>74318622
>>74318692
Oh yeah, the Condor. It was used since independence until early 80's when they demonetized the current Peso cents.
And those coins are incredible. Never saw a Tibet coin or a Mongon Empire one in person before and those Indian ones looks fantastic. This you got this from ebay?
That Saudi Ryal is in perfect shape, looks like a nickel coin. Is it silver?

Of course I would forget the pic.

>>74318658
That is really cool. Was that cosmonaut in the US when it gave it to your mother?
>>
>>74319179
Yes, it's silver.

Irarely buy coins online, I get my coins from swapping and visiting coin markets around europe.

This summer I'm meeting several swappers around southern europe so I should be having a cinsederately sizeable expansion to my collection after that.
>>
>>74319338
Nope, but rather at 35,000ft in the air
>>
>>74319328
I have probably 100 of those in a droor somewhere. Too bad you can go to any bank and request them so they are about as rare as a $1 note
>>
>>74319590
The guy who gave it to me actually did just that, and he was out spending them because I suppose the novelty wears off after a while.

Might be a lot of fun to use them overseas however.
>>
>>74319384
Now that's a great vacation. I hope we can know about your new coins after that trip. Did you talked to those collectors about what coins they have?

>>74319556
That's an interesting story. So he was up there while the USSR fell.

>>74319628
I hear about some guys who do that, get a bundle of $2 at the bank, spend them and look on peoples faces. Sometimes they don't even take it.
