We have close to zero information about the pre-Christianisation 9th century Bulgarians. We have zero evidence they called their rulers khans, that they worshipped the god Tangra or whatever. But it's still taught at school and the plebs are still parroting it. And now instead of simply saying "We don't really know" everyone is going "We wuz nomad Mongols and shit"

Except not.
Just because you read it in a school textbook or Wikipedia, doesn't mean a source actually exists anywhere in the real world.

Basque is proto-Altaic? Paul made it seem like it was a relic of several thousand years ago.

The names of the first rulers were Iranic, not Turkic. Plus, I keep repeating this--nomadic peoples stole women and took slaves which they could promote into "full citizen" status. Peoples of the Western Steppe were very, very mixed. Like modern Bulgarian, and unlike, say, Finns or other Nordics. We are a very diverse people, genetically.

A correction--not a people, but a nation.
