Cool, I've always liked the design on the current Mexican series. Have you used those $20 or $100 silver coins?
>>

I'm not talking about ounces, but circulating coins, like the state shields series.
A friend of mine went to Cancun and got one of these as change. It seems they're being sold for more than $100 now.

>>74184556
The differences between other's countries Spanish in LA are like American and British English, as in just a few words.
I'm just talking in English so other Anons can understand.

One of my coworkers is from Mexico and I'm from Spain. I have no problems speaking with him in Spanish though we both usually and literally forget about it and speak in English. It's very easy and natural to switch between languages when you are used to it.
>>
>>74185170
thats pretty crazy. I like to hold it in my hand and think about all the things that have happened in mexico since then. I wonder what things may have been bought with this coin, like did a drunk guy ever buy aguardiente with it and die or something, you know
>>
>>74184892

Yeah, it's a shame. But I've seen people getting lucky and finding one in change, just like the old silver 10 Nuevos pesos coin, but much rarer.
Forgot to ask you, what was the silver coin you have?

>>74184990
That is a pretty nice coin. Not too rare, but wanted enough to be worth more than your average coin.

It's pretty common to see euros from other countries. Here in Slovakia you can find truckloads of German and Austrian euros, as there's a lot of tourists and workers which move a lot between these countries.

In Spain it's not rare to find French, German or Italian euros due to tourism too.

The lines represent the Baltic Sea. It says something along the lines of "A wonderful story about a country on the other side of the ocean". It's talking about Finland.
>>
>>74186138
If speaking about euros, anything from Northern/Eastern countries is rare to see in Spain, I think I once saw a Finnish (?) euro.

If speaking about other coins, dunno, I have a couple of yens but japanese tourists are a plague in Europe now so they are not that rare.
>>
>>74186271
They're always the best gifts. What year it was?

>>74186416
I've always found this coin fascinating. Aside from the design, probably one of the few related about giving independence to another country.

>>74186484
I have a Lithuanian friend and even he has trouble finding Estonian and Latvian euros. It's always Lithuanian and German ones.
If you ever go back to Spain, look out for Andorran Euros, probably the most rare of all.
>>
>>74186717
The problem with small(ish) countries is that they either arrived late to the euro-fest or they decided to mint a small amount of coins just out of national pride, so closer countries such as Germany in those cases have a bigger presence.

I have looked it up about Andorra and it's the same thing, just a small number of them minted in Madrid and Paris. I'll snatch one of them if I visit it.
>>
>>74187224
It's worse with commemorative coins, as some mints has already "reserved" most of the mintage to resellers, so collectors have to pay a fortune instead of finding it as a 2 euro coin. Recently, in Andorra and Monaco coins.

Mexico always had circulating silver coins, so it seems it's pretty easy to find one there. I've never boutgh those kind of silver cents here because they always overprice it.
And the relatives' gifts are always the best for a collection.

How hard would it be to obtain a full collection of US states coins?
>>
>>74194361
It's not that hard to get them, except for the last 6 ones about US territories (Guam, Samoa, Puerto Rico, etc) because of the low mintage. I've seen entire state quarter collections being sold for CL$35000 on facebook.

>>74194204

$20-30 if it's 1910-1945, and about $150 for the pre 1870 ones.
They literally minted hundreds of millions of these if not billions, this used to be the sole currency from Iraq to Burma

These coins on photo are soms, not tyiyns (1, 3 and 5). So you can pay with them everywhere: public transport, grocery etc. They replaced banknotes in 2009 i believe

Yep, and also 10 and 50 tyiyn but they are rare. Usually you can get them in supermarket or on the currency exchange. 1 tyiyn is also exist but not issued for circulation.
>>
>>74200390
I just find this kind of info fascinating. We still have the 1 peso coin circulating over here, but it's worth like 10 tyiyn, so you only find them in supermarket change.

The best way is asking friends or relatives. If you hear someone is going on a vacation, ask them for some coins.
ebay it's pretty much the site to go, unless there are local selling sites over there.
But of all my coins, just a few of them I've bought it from internet. Most of my collection is from flea markets, always looking for the cheap stuff. And some times some exchanges from foreign collectors.

Try to find a cheap coin bulk on ebay so you can start digging.

Usually US dollar. Cars, electronics, real estate - that kind of expensive stuff - can be acquired for dollars. IIRC uzbek soʻm is in circulation on the south. What about Chile?
>>

I just posted there.

>>74200745

>>74200853
Here it's only Chilean peso. From candies to houses, of course nobody pays the later in cash. Maybe some tourist spots can receive Argentine peso or Brazilian real, but you'll end up losing.
You can exchange dollar, euro, pound and other South American currencies in exchange bureaus or some banks.

I really wish they would have designed the 1kr, 5kr and 2kr better.. I mean they are basically the same size, same weight, etc. The 1kr is a little smaller but I mean it still not enough.

There is still som old coins in circulation but the state is quickly swapping out all the old ones. I would say 85% is new coins now.
And yes, the 2 kr coin saves a lot of space.
But like I said it's easy to confuse with the 1 kr coin.
>>
>>74201032
> Don't you see some Russian roubles over there
No. Uzbek som is in circulation only because of big number of ethnic uzbeks on the south and open borders between countries, otherwise it wouldn't be in circulation as well.

And the 2000 pesos in paper. I'm also missing that one, I can't see myself spending $7000 for one of those.
Thankfully I saved 2 $500 bills when the coin was released. It was a lot of money for the little me. But most of 2000 $500 notes are being sold for like 2000-3000 pesos now.
But I've heard of people who tried to pay with those old bills now, and having problems. Of course, most of collectors would gladly take those old notes.

Really? I've always only heared complaints when going from bills to coins. "They are too small" "too heavy" "It was easier to use notes". It's fantastic if the change was so easy. And most of collectors where thrilled by the news, as now it is much easier to have a coin from Belarus.

Now that you put that info, it looks more impressive. I've never heard of that Cooper riot before, so I had to take look.

Just some of the most interesting coins from my dads tin can filled with various coins.

The two top ones are Swedish coins. The brown one is the oldest coin from the entire can (1892).

The other coin is from 1900 and is 80% silver.
>>
>>74223756
Why is that 20 cent silver?

If I ever find a coin set for $5 I'll buy it a heartbeat. But I can't seem to find that set in the Central Bank of Belarus, but I don't think they'll ship to Chile.
And for being so old and big, 10$ is pretty cheap for an old silver coin.

Yes, the silver coin is 31mm in diameter and when googling it says it should have something like 12 grams of silver content.

Various coins from Europe from when my dad travelled around Europe in his youth. I can't be bothered to look through it all but for example france, germany, czech republic, italy, hungary.

I'm not really an expert on coins or a coin collector but I found his can a year or two ago and thought it was kindof neat that he had managed to save some 100+ year old coins.

The 10k US coins are from just throwing coins into a jar over years. It actually came from my grandpa who would save up every coin he came into during the 50s and 60s so his kids would have a college fund but then he got rich in the 70s and forgot about it in the attic. He passed them onto me because he knows I enjoy coins.

I do have a better picture but 4chan's image quality limit wouldn't let me post it so here

All the coins from the jars were pennies, nickels, dimes, and a few quarters. The years ranged from 1910s to the 1960s.

Quite a few actually. My dad and I went through them during Christmas and that's when I took them home.

I'm also not worried about the silver coins because I found something even more special. Check pic related. Now google a 1943 copper penny value and the reasoning behind it.

We spent all day of the 22nd and the 23rd before Christmas sorting out coins by the year. I would have skipped over the 1943 but we were like halfway through and I was wondering why that was the first 1943 I came across while we had hundreds of every other year. The only full picture I have of the face side of the coin is with this stupid snapchat caption over it because I screenshotted it when I sent it to my coin friend after finding it. The coin is still at my grandpa's house. I'll post the reverse side in a second

>Have you swapped with Numista collectors before? What did you send them?

I have lots of coins and banknotes, oldest coins are from 300-400 bc and oldest banknote are from the french revolution.

I always get my coins from auctions and coin markets in bulk lots so i don't know exactly, depends on the grade and year mostly because some coins that are only 5 euros in lower grade can cost up to thousands in mint state.

Finnish coins used to have fairly low mintages so they tend to be a rarity outside finland.

>>

1000 mk is around 170 euros but some guy found a whole bunch of them in perfect condition in his attic and their prices sank, they stopped exchanging those notes in 2012 i think.

I've been doing this since 2011, it all started from saving coins from countries where I've been to.

Favourite banknote must be 50 francs note with the little prince and coin swiss shooting thaler from zĂĽrich from 1872.
>>
>>74237259
>and their prices sank
lel, that's always the best. The only banknote I have from Finland is a 5 Markka from the 60s, and I think I paid too much.
How many coins you have now? And banknotes? What's the rarest country you have and where have you been on your travels?

>Did you bought something from that market?
I thought I bought a handful of Nazi era coins just because I know I couldn't get them any other way and because he gave me a deal cheaper than what I could have gotten online. Those were the only coins I would actually pay for.

>That Ukrainian one, is it a banknote?
I'm pretty sure it is. I stayed with a friend of mine when I visited him in Kiev and he gave me that plus a couple of Soviet era postcards and other stuff as a gift. He told me that it's a 2,000,000 banknote from 1992 when the Soviet Union had just collapsed and inflation was crazy high and they printed it for some unusual reason. I can't read cyrillic but I think it says "certificate" on it.

If it isn't the referee for Finland, a pleasure to meet you. You have a lot of great coins, even for swap. I must say, Danzig may be more rarer than San Marino.
You even have the huge 60 bath form Thailand note. How much was that? I've always wanted a Numista with banknote, Colnect was never my cup of tea.

>>74237617
2 million karbovanets, before the current Hryvnia. It happened with all the ex-URSS countries after independence.
I thought you couldn't buy nazi stuff in German soil.
Here's my link. I still need to actualize some stuff in the swap list
numista.com/echanges/profil.php?id=48463

And we're about to hit bump limit. Never thought it was actually going to happen.

The Japanese coin is from the late 1930s. The one above it is from Nepal, 1960s-70s timeframe.

Colnect sucks in my opinion, i only use it for managing my collections.

I'm actually swapping the Danzig coin as we speak so it may not be mine for long.

I paid 14 euros for the note, it's uncirculated,

My largest banknote is a Russian 500 rubles from 1912, it's huge.

I spent a few minutes trying to identify the Nepalese coin. There were two which looked the same aside from some Nepalese letter. My first coin from Nepal.

>>74237927
I almost got one of those huge Russian note, but I didn't have a place to keep it safe from bending it.
Why are you swapping the Danzig one? Is it a double?

Too modern for me, i only collect pre-1900 coins unless it's silver or has a very nice design.

I had to buy a new album for my large banknotes because they're too big to fit the regular sized one.
>>
>>74238071
I see, that's fine. What's a modern nice design for you?
The notes too big to fit the album I have to keep in in a Photo album.

He hasn't told me about that one, I'll ask later about that adventure.
What's your numista username anyway?

Don't expect to see anything special, it's pretty amateur. I haven't updated it in a long time so much is missing. I'm pretty sure you have everything I have

And yeah, we went backpacking in November. He met up with me in Berlin and then we traveled through Bavaria, Austria, Northern Italy, Liechtenstein, and Switzerland. Here he is in one of my pictures from Liechtenstein

Where did you find that Chilean 1 centavo? Don't tell me he gave it to you?
Seems it was a nice trip, I'd love to go around the Alps one day. Did you brought something for your collection?

>>74238363

o-oh uhh n-no he definitely didn't give that to me nope no way :)

Tbh I covered some of his expenses and he gave me some coins to add to my collection as a gift.

>Did you brought something for your collection?
What do you mean?

everyone itt is guilty of copying money wich is a serious crime
>>
>>74238546
I couldn't remember giving one of those to him, but I checked the swap list and there it was. It wasn't in the best condition desu, but it's also not too easy to get. Take care of them

I mean if you got some coins during your travel, aside from the ones he gave you.

Back in November. We went to see a certain someone's birth house before it will be torn down and also because I was leaving Europe for a while and it would be our last chance to travel together.

Kind of. My mom is German and I was born in Germany but I spent the majority of my life in the US

>Did you brought your collection with you?
Yeah, I moved so I brought everything I own with me

How did you meet Jurgis?
>>
>>74238912
Yes, but I'd rather not just go all out and buy them from ebay
If I have as many of each as I do Yugoslav coins, I'll be happy

>>74238936
I met him on one of these coin threads on /int/. We kept talking afterwards about finding coins on local markets and organized a swap some months later.
How did you meet him anyways?
