We were in quite a predicament already trying to stay neutral. Letting armed allied forces through Sweden not only threatened our ability to stay out of the war but also directly threatened our industry. As we've learned later the British had no intention of leaving Sweden once there and only a small fraction of the forces were actually to go to help the Finns, the rest would've stayed to destroy and occupy Swedish mines. We were already aware of the Brit's dislike of us trading with Germany so we were rightly skeptical of them sending large numbers of troops through our country. Finland doesn't really factor in to the equation at all, for either party.

As for Sweden officially lending aid to Finland is more complicated. Basically what it boils down to is the leading political party not wanting to support Finland because:

1) Finland was very young and as such unpredictable.
2) Finland had a, understandably, strong anti-socialist sentiments throughout their political structure. At this point in time the social democrats enjoyed a overwhelming majority approval in Sweden and it was as such viewed with distrust.
3) Due to a massive disarmament a decade earlier Sweden barely had a fighting force worth mentioning. (like today)

Primarily though it's the political squabble that stopped an intervention in Finland. The right wanted to intervene but the socialists were divided in the matter. Personally I think it's an absolute embarrassment that we didn't intervene.

Swedes helped us during the Winter War, and the Finlandskommiten was almost a romantic showing of Nordic bortherhood. Saying that it was charity is a bit wrong though, since most of the material was sold but some was given. Swedish voluntary troops also were the only voluntary troops that saw any real action. Most others were just sitting around behind the front (like Christopher Lee) Swedish aid/commerce was worth ~1470 million marks, while countries like Italy, France, GB and Belgium gave/sold us 500 - 700 million marks worth of stuff. Unfortunately foreign aid and heavy war machinery was not that important in the winter war, due to the nature of the war. Continuation war had a much bigger industrial need and it was mostly supplied by Germany.

Also no Swede should bring the refugee thing up. Finnish children were treated horribly, and kidnapped. Most of the children were from cities that saw no fighting, and our government later admitted that sending them away was a mistake. So a shit ton of harm caused for nothing.

It's quite sad. I almost like Swedes but this thread shows them that:
