A 7,1 here kills absolutely no one with 0 structural damage on top of that, if anything like this would happen in Argentina it would wipe them out of existence just like Haiti so don't be mean to them

Depends on what field you get a job in
Oil: make lots of money when there's a boom, wait tables when there's not
environmental: steady and you can make a decent wage if you stick with it
Govt: dunno, good luck getting in...

Japan buildings are shit compared to ours. They get 7+ richter quakes once every 100 years. We get a 8.5+ quake once every 60 or so years, and 7+ yearly. They got btfo by a 7 a year ago.

intensity isn't the only factor, it also depends on depth
t. earthquake expert from earthquake land
local news here in CA will talk about this earthquake and then have a segment on how we're way overdue for a big one
>>74035874
I know, but the arguments still stands. Our buildings need to be strong because we get strong earthquakes much more frequently, compared to other "seismic" countries like Japan.
there was an earthquake here as well if you can believe it, odd really, magnitude ~3, moderately worrisome
>>74035943
I hope california gets such a quake that it basically turns the south into atlantis
