I don't doubt that New England has excellent outdoor options, but the Pacific Northwest has way more biomes. Temperate rainforests, deserts, taller mountains, etc. Fewer Californians is a huge plus though.

but to add to your list, I think you're being a bit harsh. There are some incredible places outside the PNW/New England, but they don't have strong reputations:
Blue Ridge Mountains
Idaho, around Boise
Montana if you don't mind small town life (+Access to alberta)
Finger lakes of NY

I'm sure there are even more places, but maybe they are best kept under wraps. you see what's happens when people crowd in on a well-memed area (pnw)
