I don't think pashtuns were recognized as a distinct ethnicity until a certain point in time either but that in general they descend from the bactrians, arachosians and hepthalites

so yeah it was a mix of 4 religions more or less depending on the area, zoroastrianism, buddhism, zunbilism/pagan shit and early hinduism

I also think that the hinduism/buddhism was very different from what is practised today

I.E. pre-vedic Aryan faith, as mentioned above. Also, zunbils were one of these 'pagans', and there was a strong buddhist culture in gandahara. There were also hindu brahmins in most of the large settlements (Kabul Shahis were hindu, Barmakids trace lineage to a Hindu dynasty, etc.)

No in Nepal apart from few differences they're really difficult to differentiate. In Nepal's hill and mountain regions Hinduism has absorbed Buddhist tenets to such an extent that in many cases they have shared deities as well as temples. For instance, the Muktinath Temple is sacred and a common house of worship for both Hindus and Buddhists

Very cool. In South India at least, there are many many old Buddhist temples, but most are abandoned, or re-purposed into Hindu temples after Buddhism became unpopular (Shankaracharya lol). So we always forget that these two religions are really one and the same in almost all ways.

No I think they started in western china or sogdia, went south to afghanistan/bactria for quite a while and it wasn't until later on that they went southward to india.
