why do people on /int/ love new england so god damn much? I even see people from other countries talking about new england on here. It's funny because I'm from new england and everyone there is bored and trying to move or just straight up hates living there. You rarely meet new englanders who are just thrilled to be living in new england, and honestly it's because we just don't know how good we have it. Quite the bubble, desu.

I feel like normies rarely ever talk about living in like vermont, new hampshire, or maine. All of the time you hear about the cities then maybe like NC, Colorado, and the entirety of Cali.

>>73778473
Also people suck at driving all over in my opinion. To be honest I really like the weather of new england. Think about it too. You can skii in vermont, maine, new hampshire during the winter and in the summer you can go to rhode island and cape code for the beach. To be quite honest we've got pretty decent weather.

I was going to school in New Haven at the time so my experience was pretty limited to New Haven and some surrounding towns, plus Hartford a few times

I think that the CT coast East of New Haven definitely compares to the best of the rest of coastal New England. I also had a friend from the "Quiet Corner" and visited his home a few times, and it was very idyllic.

Southwestern CT is pretty much a barnacle on the ass of New York, it seems. I was pretty surprised to learn that wealthy New Yorkers live there, because honestly it did not seem very nice. Lots of blight and sprawl.
>>
>>73779531
I have lived all my life in NH, what is your opinion of it? How would you compare california to New England? I've only passed through.
>>
>>73759730

US.

I immigrated to the US from the UK around 7 years ago. Britain is a shit compared to the states when it comes to standard of living.
>>
>>73779572
I like New Hampshire a lot, although my impression of it wasn't at all like what people on /int/ suggest all the time, like it's some kind of conservative free-market paradise. It seemed just like rural CT and MA to me, which is to say mostly reserved but politically left of center when it comes to things like economics, education, welfare, religion, et cetera. Like French paysans. The mountains of New Hampshire are very remarkable. Beautiful forests

California seems very different from New England to me, and not just for obvious reasons like the weather. The pace of life is a bit more like France, and so is the climate, which is why I think it's a popular tourist destination. It feels Mediterranean in a lot of ways. But it's also more stereotypical American than New England is, at least when it comes to negative stereotypes like driving-obsessed culture, image-obsessed culture, and, well, being dumb (it really seems to me like the educational system there is not very strong, or maybe people just don't care). Anyways, the reason why I prefer New England is because it's different from France in a lot of ways (more culturally anglo and yet also very proudly and distinctly american; people seem to know their politics and history here and take it seriously) but also similar in the ways that matter to me (not religious, believe in science and education, compact towns and cities, don't need to own a car). Also, forgot to mention that Californians are super religious compared to New England

Lots of rambling there but I hope you get the idea. Honestly I even like the shitty parts of America. It's a great country to be in, even if a lot of it still drives me crazy for being so stupid

It depends

Do you want money: USA
Do you want comfy cities but to live in a rat box? UK
>>
>>73779898
What do you mean by french paysans?
>>
The downsides of each:

US
>American normies can be particularly annoying and loud
>higher risk (healthcare, career, crime, natural disasters, etc)
>less vacation
>university is expensive
>not as much history

UK
>shit wages compared to US
>almost everything is much more expensive
>some of the worst, tiniest housing in the 1st world
>no space, everywhere is cramped and uncomfortable
>terrible weather
>awful "crabs in a bucket" mentality
>extortionately high taxes
>quality of healthcare is poor
>customer service in general is poor
>far too many rules and regulations
>everything is generally damp, drab, and dreary
>generally lower standard of living
>no longer really relevant
>cucked by royal family
>>
>>73780293
I mean how people who live in the rural parts of France can sometimes be culturally conservative or reserved or whatever but are still more or less economically socialist, whereas in the US they're much more likely to buy into "the government is evil" bullshit. Lots of rural people in France like the government because without it they wouldn't have health care and other essential social benefits. Also our educational system in general really makes a big deal out of civics and the importance of government institutions.

From a foreigner's perspective, Americans have a really weirdly dysfunctional and adversarial relationship with their government, and I don't really understand why. Again, the only place I haven't felt that as much is New England. People here might complain about stuff but they also tend to take the time to fix the things that are making them complain, and understand the role that government plays in society. I just think the politics here is a bit more "healthy" and familiar to me, although France is of course far from perfect (it's just more familiar)
>>

Hating government is like hating agriculture or interchangeable parts. It's just patently inexplicably idiotic. Why don't you go yell at a cornfield or a steam turbine? Why does it always have to be the institution of government and civil society?
>>
>>73779898
Thanks for the detailed response. Northern New England is rural and that comes through in its governance. When people talk about the differences between Massachusetts and the north it's not generally about the people or culture as (outside of Boston) they're very similar. The governmental policies are quite noticeably different especially when it comes to income tax, sales tax, alcohol&tobacco taxes, gun laws, and the general scale of the state apparatus.

That's kind of a dumb answer though, because my hatred of life almost certainly has little to nothing to do with where I live. But still, it's worth a shot. I can't imagine that the worst thing that could happen would be much worse than the way things are now. UK is my answer.

Government obviously is able to provide safety that would otherwise be lacking, but liking government for government's sake, and involving government in practically all private decisions is not a good model either. Government should exist to ensure the freedom of its people from force and violence, but in the end all of governmental power is built on having a monopoly on this force.

The more involved the government is, the more opportunities for corruption and seizure of the government's use of force for ends benefiting the few.

>>73780785
Yeah, because government provides an environment for people to compete peacefully and to thrive when done correctly. The opposition to government is due to how inept and inefficient it is, and that its primary tool is saying "no, you can't".
>>
>>73780852
The idea that government has a monopoly on force is pseudo-libertarian claptrap

The very definition of a modern liberal democracy is that it does NOT have a monopoly on the use of force! Certain natural rights are guaranteed as inalienable! Did you dummies forget to read literally anything from the 18th century? Modern liberal democracies have tremendous constraints on their powers compared not only to literally every other form of government, but pretty much most forms of human organization in general (e.g. a corporate structure, where the company owner exercises absolute and total control)

So, if the government does not have a monopoly on violence, then who does it share that power with?

Capital.

The reason why libertarians (or at least the hucksters who are at the center of libertarian "theory") want you to think the gubmint is the bad guy is because the government is the only check that exists on the power of capital. In a truly free society, there needs to be a healthy balance between the two. So, a strong government does need to exist to ensure that those who control the most capital don't assrape those who control the least... because unlike governments, people who figuratively own you can literally do whatever they want to you.
>>
>>73780982
A monopoly on the legitimate use of force (except in cases of self defense), restricted by the constitution, common law, and any of the various laws reigning in government power that have been passed since we became a country. I didn't think I'd have to explain this as it's self evident. Having capital and entering into voluntary contracts is not force. Deception, unfair manipulation of markets, and monopolistic practices are regulated (though they could be more) as the government has a responsibility to. I never stated the government shouldn't prevent coercion, deception, or any practice that causes others harm.

As long as decisions are made voluntarily without deception, coercion, or malicious manipulation of external factors then the government should stay out.

I can't tell if you fail to understand liberalism or if you are merely opposed to it. As for the influence of capital, workers must organize (as those who desire to use their labor do) in order to increase their power in negotiations and advocate for their needs and desires.
>>
>>73781099

Voluntary associations are not the same as governmental control of all the labor and capital in the nation. Don't like it, don't join. Don't go complaining on the internet when you work 12 hours a day with no benefits or vacation and spend your last dollar at the company store, though.

I'll sum it up for ya.
AMERICA
-niggers and spics in all the cities
-Shit cities mostly that stretch on forever and ever. Fucking grids.
- You have to drive everywhere. Shit public transport. Even new York fucking sucks compared to just Lyon in France.
-people are fat and wear unfashionable clothes everywhere.
-Super bi-partisan politics
-powerful food industry lobbying which means steroids, hfcs in everything etc
-very corporate.
-No bants
-Race relations suck

+Cool, world influencing culture
+Cheap property and land
+Good understanding of free speech
+Muslims are hardly a problem as only the rich educated moderates get in
+Girls are decent looking when not fat
+AMAZING GOD TIER WILDERNESS

ENGERLAND
-Muslims in many cities and particularly in the south East. Not the integrated decent ones but poor as fuck Pakistanis who hate England and the West and are outbreeding the natives.
-government is a nanny state that bends over backwards for Muslims and refuses to arrest pedophiles gangs because they are brown.
-shitty censorship they makes everything not fun. Hates freedom of speech.
-Slags
-expensive shoebox sized houses
-Fuck, everything is expensive
-No space. Everything is farmland. No wilderness apart from Wales Scotland and Dartmoor which kind of suck anyway.
-empty national pride. The only acceptable form of patriotism is sucking multicultural cock.
-if you want a well paying job iit is basically London or bust
-Girls are ugly and fat

+bants
+Better public transport
+Easy and cheap to get a plane and leave.
+Better quality food
+Buildings which are older than 50 years old
+Some nice cities (even if many centres have been destroyed by shitty post war development Birmingham is the worst I've ever seen)
+Slags

Overall I'd choose America. Mostly just for the beautiful wilderness.

what is the secret of these threads?
99% of all threads die after 20 posts or reach the bump limit. but occasionally some of them last for a few days. there is a science behind that i am sure.
>>
>>73784651
ah this post may be the answer

>>73804158

>>
>>73804158
For a thread to be successful on 4chan it must have a simple premise started in a couple sentences, an attention grabbing image able to be understood from the thumbnail, and either state an opinion as fact or invite others to share their opinion and teary it as fact. Attempting to discuss any topic on depth or have a worthwhile discussion will get you ignored.

Well if it is too successful it will hit the bump limit pretty quickly, sometimes in a matter of a few minutes. I am talking about those rare threads that last longer than 24 hours. It should draw some attention but not too much attention so it would be bumped steadily but not too frequently.

I work at a nuke plant and we have a ton of UK transplants, so I imagine that a less regulated industry would be even easier to get into.
(You get the job first, and when you apply there is usually a box to check that says you'll need visa assistance. Not all that hard.)
