This is Evans city, Pennsylvania. It has a population of 1800 people. It baffles me.

Why do towns like this exist? Why do people choose to live in them? What do they do all day?
>>

1. Not everyone has the priviledge of choice in everything.
2. They might say the same bout you.

Rural Pennsylvania is a pretty comfy place to live if you like the outdoors. There isn't a whole lot of money in the area though, and job prospects there are grim.

looks comfy, sorta like Twin Peaks , where people in the local bar know you and the girl at the diner get's you your favorite pie without asking

>buy a property there because cheap af and the job is good

bim bam boom.

conversely it might be a commuter village for a real city, in which case its just a suburb.

conversely it might have been an old village amidst rural localities and now its just a shithole where farmers get their doctoring and groceries from.

I know someone who works from home as an Artist. He was living in NYC making around $75k, but $75k in a lot of places in NYC isn't anything.

So he moved to some small town with like 8000 people and lives like a king now.

I grew up in Jim Thorpe, PA. I've seen a lot of towns like this.
The houses are all cheap as fuck and they usually have restaurants and small stores where you can get stuff really cheap.

Generally the people who grow up in towns like this do one of two things -
1. Get out. After highschool they head off to college and end up moving away almost immediately. They really only come back to visit friends/family.
2. Stay. They pretty much spend their entire lives like they're in highschool. They keep the same group of friends and work small jobs at places around town that pays them enough to get by.

Honestly, they're pretty comfy. They have almost no crime and you get to live really well for the amount of money you have.

It's a low density area.
You've got another 180k people living within in a 15 miles radius, hardly all that lonely. There seem to be all kind of required amenities too.
It's not a metropolis, but I really don't see what the problem is. Aside from maybe poverty, but that would be unrelated to urban density, there's plenty of rich low density areas.

I've never fucking understood this normie meme

Are normies literally unable to do anything at all if they don't have access to a fucking nightclub or something? I mean seriously, there's hardly any difference if you have access to internet. Most people I know spend most of their time just hanging out, wasting time online and drinking, all of which is perfectly doable even in Reine, Norway.

If you have nothing to do in your spare time, then the problem is most likely with you, not with the place in which you're living.

Also, I'm willing to bet that there's tons of outdoors stuff (especially hiking) around that town.

It's a bit different to live in a fishing village than to live in an arid or hilly inland area hundreds of miles from the nearest city. Landlocked areas are always poorer.

I grew up in a 2000 people little town, near enough a couple of 20k people larger towns, so a similar situation. I can rightly assure you that it's fucking wonderful living.
I went to live in a big city for uni with the wifey (well gf back then), it was fucking shit. We came right back as soon as we got our degrees.

Now, it must be said that my hometown is rich. Plenty of semi-subsidized agriculture and health/winter tourism to feed the region's economy. The town in your pic looks poor. That is certain to make a sizeable difference in life quality, but then it's not quite an attribute of population, isn't it? I bet you wouldn't choose a big city like Lagos over Evans City just because of its size either.

You are not from Norwayylmao so you are excused. Growing up in a place like that is a nightmare if you are not interested in fishing, football or drinking hard and fighting om the weekends.

I grew up in a small place in Norway and my interest were music. There was just me and this two other guys a town over. There was just nothing for me there. And if you stick out in a small town here you get talked about in a bad way and people give you shit everywhere.

Tried living in the city for a few years but moved out into the suburbs when i had enough money. I like living in a small place if im near enough the city to catch a concert or something everytime i want.

>towns
I think you'll find it's called a village. At least in Germany I'd rather live in a village than in a city because it takes mere minutes on a bike to get to "nature" and the air is much better. You can always drive a car to the nearest big city if you feel so inclined, and all the things that are interesting in big cities are public anyway, so you can be there as well. The reverse isn't true, if you live in a city you can't just go to a village and live there without paying an arm and a leg.

It's lost in the mountains about 1km above sea levels. My best friend is from there. It's amazingly beautiful and very comfy, but in the middle of nowhere so there's nothing to do unless you want to be a farmer or a lumberjack. Or are down with long commutes daily.

It used to be a bigger, strriving village, we had the railroad passing through, but decades ago the train stopped passing by there and the village has been on a steep decline ever since.

A bit of both.
They're all students so they're obnoxious oslocunts for the most part, so having them gone is good.
On the other hand, all the places you can drink at cater to them and close when they're gone.
I'd say overall the trade's worth it.
