The overbooking incident was merely a product of a "belligerent" passenger, and a police officer that might have played a part in the man hitting his head on the armrest.

Literally every airline overbooks. It's just that United got the short straw. The incident is in no way representative of how the US works; you need better things to judge us on.

Here in Mexico there's something called malinchismo, which is when someone actively prefers something foreign for being foreign. I feel there's a lot of people here that are malinchista towards the US, though sometimes it's not bad, because what they might bring in (animated movies for example) has a better quality than what we currently have.

We have a lot of fast food joints but it's not like the American joints are the only ones that serve fast and kinda unhealthy food here.

Up north we also use a lot of English words, and middle/upper class young people are stereotyped as constantly trying to speak butchered English.

I don't mind "Americanization" though. Not only do we "Mexicanize" them too, but not everything that gets assimilated from them is bad, it's just that the good things are inventions and such, which people don't really consider as culture.
>>

We have the same thing. But we prefer something foreign not for the sake of it being foreign, but because all Russian products are SHIT. It's usually concerns music, movies, tv shows and to a lesser degree literate. It isn't a secret that Russian cinematography is a joke (not like Bollywood, but very close). Our music is a ripoff of American music, so it's obvious why folk go for an authentic product.

There aren't many tourist-attracting places here in Russia, nobody is interested in travelling here. People don't study English because it's mostly useless in this country besides some narrowly-specialized areas like IT or international affairs. Russians don't travel to other countries, don't have relatives or friends abroad, don't consume western media and entertainments. Most of our country is still under an "iron curtain", just like the Soviet Union. In real life, for example, I have never seen or talked to a foreign person.

that's a fair criticism, but that's how the world is. I mean do you expect all english speakers to learn italian, spanish, french, german, mandarin, etc.. in order to understand everyone else? You know that america is made of immigrants, and many speak a second language already--including myself. but of course there are ignorant americans who cant even speak english well when it's their first language and expect others to learn it as well. It's not everyone but that's just how ignorant people are everywhere.

I'm less worried about that, and more worried about the fact that millions of English-speaking (fluent or near-fluent) people can come here and both compete for jobs and participate in our market.

In contrast, there are so many jobs in Italy that will probably never suffer competition from foreigners because comparatively few foreigners learn Italian. All of the jobs that require Italian language skill are "safe" for you.

Competition for employment in the USA is intense. It's only going to get worse when automation kills off lower class jobs, too. There is very little safety net except for old people, so the current generations getting fucked are millennials and generation X. I can't complain, though, because the USA designed the Bretton Woods system and it pushed for this globalist system. It's primarily harming the American lower class.

If they learned english to do that, then they're welcomed. if you're a native english speakerand you cant compete with someone who has to learn the language to get the job, then you deserve to lose it. America should welcome that kind of talent. It's the ones that come here and don't learn the language and take jobs that are the problems and this is just as common.
>>

What part of "this creates an intense pressure" do you not understand?

You're about as bad as this illiterate >>73697775

Brain drain is a real thing, no joke. If all the highly educated Italian people learn English and then leave Italy, Italy will be run by those who are leftover: dumb people who are corrupt, incompetent, and lazy. The employment competition pressure would be relatively low compared to a situation in which this wouldn't happen, where intelligent Italian doctors stay in Italy and increase competition.

Globalism and brain drain upends local meritocracies this way.

>America should welcome that kind of talent.

No, because speaking a language does not guarantee cultural compatibility. I speak Mandarin but you won't catch me alive singing the praises of chabuduo culture, the politburo system, kicking the can down the road to 'save face,' animal cruelty, and lots of other systemic problems that China as a society has. And you know what? That would make me an awful fit for China despite speaking their language.

Citizenship in the US is civic nationalism and a social contract with our government. It's not a damn language.
>>

If Americans assimilated, we would be living in teepees on the plateaus instead melting cultures.

The jobs that America imports are mostly STEM jobs. People can't just come to compete for jobs just because they can speak English.
You're being fooled if you think anyone is stealing your jobs besides automation. STEM graduates are being picked up before they even look for work here. There is not enough talent and why we import it.
Apple, Google, MS, they hire everybody that comes out. Without the importing talent, our tech industry would probably be half the size, and for what? If you can't compete for the position with foreign borns, you dont deserve the job. As long as they get here legally is all I care about.

Well, people are encouraged to study the things they enjoy doing here, so that part is cultural, and also unfortunately our public school system is really bad at teaching STEM. It's only if you get to university level or private education that the education is really good.
More are starting to study in STEM though because now they that is where the jobs are, so they don't have much choice.
Also, most of tech industry is pretty new, a lot of startups, and the industry grew very big and very fast, so it was difficult to keep the field saturated no matter what.
>>
As an American I absolutely hate this globalization with turning everyone into an American. Can't have our own culture now, once everyone is an "American" nobody is.
>>

>Also, most of tech industry is pretty new, a lot of startups, and the industry grew very big and very fast, so it was difficult to keep the field saturated no matter what.
That's good temporarily but that leads me to believe it will pop down the road like the .com bubble.

I went to art school but then learned programing on my own and became a technical director for 3d animation. :) People are forced into learning STEM now if they want a good job. Luckily, it gets easier as the tech field develops and companies require more specialization. No need to have a Computer Science degree and know everything about computers anymore like before just to get a job.

the startups do have a high failure rate, but i don't think the tech industry as a whole is something that can fail. it's become ubiquitous. Tech is in every sector now, medical, military, industrial, entertainment, etc. it's basically the foundation of the future.

Exactly wherever you go now you see the same architecture and buildings being built, the same clothes, the same brands of products.

They said the future of humanity and globalization would mark a great new beginning and expansion into space, but all I see is the death of what made it worth anything to begin with. Everyone's turning into a bland featureless blob without any semblance of tastes, language, or culture.

Everything is this artificial corporate crap. And we didn't even get any space colonization out of it.

I see this also. And unfortunately I think this will go on for the foreseeable future, until some point when society no longer resembles anything currently and remembers nothing of different cultures, and with technology people begin introducing uniqueness back on a global scale. At that point people would be able to genetically engineer themselves to appear any race, have any color skin, eye, hair they want, and it would be more of a fashion statement. But if we get to that point, I would be in the distant future long past our lifetimes.

Sounds more like a dystopia. Still what were seeing now with this globalization is actually very similar to the old colonialism it replaced. Back than they tried to do this whole multicultural thing too. The natives never bought it, were always resentful and rebelled.

Now they just tried to do the opposite and bring those people back to west instead with incentivisations. Won't work though I don't think the native populations of the west now will be the ones feeling resentful and want to have their countries back.

They obviously don't given the number of people who talk about getting rejected. Google's policy is literally better to reject a good applicant than accept a bad one.
>Training people is the meme. there is no training in tech. you are expected to know what to do when you get in.
Yeah that's what I said, who do you think is deciding that?
I have no sympathy for some dipshit hiring manager who wants to find applicant who aces whiteboard problems, is familiar with their domain specific tech, and is willing work for mediocre salary. Instead they just cry for more people and pajeets from tata.
>When America Imported Africans to work the cotton fields, they built America. When the Chinese came over to build the interstate rail system, they built America. When the Italians came over and opened their pizzarias, they built America.
And the English never did anything? Also why are you including blacks are though they're not American born citizens? They're not immigrants they've been here since basically day 1.
The situation is completely different given the expansion of welfare state in 20th century.

It's actually not, outside of superficial aspects like food and some music Americans stick to their own groups.
Do you realize how segregated cities are?
The south american countries were real melting pots.
>>
>Do you know any STEM graduates looking for work?
>Yes.
That's unfortunate because have they checked craigslist? There are literally dozens or even hundreds of tech job postings every single day in every city. I've never had a problem finding or getting work and neither any of people in tech that I know. STEM work shortage isn't even a meme. I'm in Kansas right now, and the big tech companies even come here to recruit anyone willing to move.

>And the English never did anything? Also why are you including blacks are though they're not American born citizens? They're not immigrants they've been here since basically day 1

Sure, the English also but are you telling me the English made America? Blacks were imported to work. the ones who actually built America were brought over on ships to did hard labor, not the lazy shits here today.

>>73701215
>Do you realize how segregated cities are?
i've lived from california, to texas, to new york, to kansas. I know how segregated the communities are but the people come together to work, and that's what builds america.

America bred slaves more than other places, by 1850 most slaves were multiple generations removed from Africa.
>I know how segregated the communities are but the people come together to work, and that's what builds america.
What built America in the past was exploitation of groups by capitalists, why would now be any different?
Research shows diversity has a negative impact on society but cheap labor is cheap labor.
>he big tech companies even come here to recruit anyone willing to move.
What percentage are hired? It's cheap to send out recruiters or spam people on linkedin but actually hiring them is different matter. Looking at some numbers for google they were hiring 1 person for every 428 applications.
>but the people come together to work
Where? Tech is mainly white, asian, and indian men. Construction in many places has almost completely been taken over by less than legal latinos.
>>73702260
>These are no longer unique to america.
1st and 2nd amendment are fairly unique.
>>

>They literally did.
got news for you, you're not english. you just made my point.
>>73702813
>Looking at some numbers for google they were hiring 1 person for every 428 applications.
That's because they get applications from everyone, including people who already have jobs in tech but simply want to work for google.
Again, you can look for these meaningless statistics or simply look at the job boards to see what jobs are available. Many of those job positions have been open for months because there arent enough qualified people.

>1st and 2nd amendment are fairly unique.
1st amendment is not unique
2nd amendment I agree is more unique.
>>73702813
>but the people come together to work
>Where?

In the same city. in the same building. In the same schools. In the same trains. In the same buses. people come together to keep the system running. just because different races will specialize in different areas, doesn't mean they aren't working together.
>>
>>73702813
>Research shows diversity has a negative impact on society but cheap labor is cheap labor.
America was built on cheap foreign labor. Americans have reaped that rewards from it. Now you believe that Americans should take credit for that labor too?
>>
>>73702813
>America bred slaves more than other places, by 1850 most slaves were multiple generations removed from Africa.

and for most of that time when they were doing all of the hard labor, blacks weren't even considered humans, not to mention american.
but now, lets conveniently consider them americans, so that we can say americans built america...
>>
>>73703685
>got news for you, you're not english. you just made my point.
In making America they became Americans...
I think it's indisputable that America owes its existence more to the English Americans than the Italian's and their pizzerias.
>1st amendment is not unique
Which places have similar? Europe is notably more restrictive of speech. Japan maybe?
>>73703685
> just because different races will specialize in different areas, doesn't mean they aren't working together.
Were southerners working together with the slaves? A black man driving your bus is the best the melting pot has to offer? High diversity reduces civic participation, community trust, etc.
>>73704514
>Now you believe that Americans should take credit for that labor too?
What?

Why are you so driven to accept all comers and allow them to inflate labor market and drive down wages?
>>
>>73705377
>In making America they became Americans...
using the same argument, anyone who works in america now should be considered an american because they're helping american industry.

>>1st amendment is not unique
>Which places have similar
Seriously, outside of NK and dictatorships like Turkey, pretty much every country has a similiar level of free speech. Mexico? Even China, but you might not believe that considering what we hear here. Freedom of the press and free speech here is just a facad of what we think it is. We already know that the media here is controlled and corrupt, so there is no real press anymore. Even the new media censors and deletes everything. Our freedom of speech is pretty much useless like it is everywhere else.

>A black man driving your bus is the best the melting pot has to offer? High diversity reduces civic participation, community trust, etc.
If you havent noticed, all the races are fucking eachother in the cities too. how much more do you think they can mash?

>>73705377
>Why are you so driven to accept all comers and allow them to inflate labor market and drive down wages?
but I'm not. I simply don't believe that's the truth of what's happening. Like I said before, where would our tech industry be if we lost a quarter of the people or more? Is that going to make america richer, better? Reality is pointing to automation taking peoples jobs. you just have look around to see. Shops are using kiosks to replace cashiers, companies use robots to stack warehouses, trucks are beginning to drive themselves to deliver packages. those are the jobs that are disappearing.
