>I mean can't name a specific example for MEP s just as I couldn't name a specific example with MPs
The obvious difference is you'd have much less hassle googling up some examples for MPs, yet you're struggling to find none existent cases for MEPs because the EU is not accountable to the people and never will be.

So again, it's a clear cut case for smaller government and more accountability for the people. You can support the EU but don't blindly defend it on it's faults, of which we've barely scratched the surface.

The Myrmidons were a legendary people of Greek mythology, native to the region of Thessaly. During the Trojan War, they were commanded by Achilles, as described in Homer's Iliad. According to Greek legend, they were created by Zeus from a colony of ants and therefore took their name from the Greek word for ant, myrmex.

Homer's Iliad gives an account of a portion of the Trojan War, with a focus on the role of Achilles.

Achilles refuses to fight, still bitter about the wrongs committed against him, but he allows Patroclus to borrow his armor and his army of Myrmidons.

Patroclus, however, is killed by Hector in battle, and Achilles rejoins the Trojan War to seek revenge.

The EU is more accountable to the people than Westminster since it uses a proportional representative rather than the grossly unrepresentative system that Westminster uses. There's no clear cut case that Westminster is more accountable to the people. Just ask people in Scotland and Northern Ireland if Westminster is being accountable to its member states wishes.

>The EU is more accountable to the people than Westminster
That's demonstrably false though as we've just proven together. Are you implying the Scottish people have more say on what goes on with EU law than they do British law? I feel like their only problem at the moment is the SNP is a one issue party out for independence and nothing else, that's why you don't hear anything different. They have their own Parliament for local issues, watch a single session to see 100% more changes through local government that the Scots will ever see from the EU.

From 999 to 1042 the Normans in Italy, coming first as pilgrims, were mainly mercenaries serving at various times the Byzantines.

In 1038 there arrived William Iron-Arm and Drogo, the two eldest sons of Tancred of Hauteville, a petty noble of the Cotentin in Normandy. The two joined in the revolt of the Lombards against Byzantine control of Apulia.

The Lombards turned against their erstwhile allies, and Pope Leo IX determined to expel the Norman freebooter. His army was defeated, however, at the Battle of Civitate sul Fortore in 1053 by the Normans.

The reformist Papacy, at odds with the Holy Roman Emperor (the Investiture Controversy) and the Roman nobility itself, resolved to recognize the Normans and secure them as allies.

The Savage Club, founded in 1857, is a gentlemen's club in London.

The founding meeting of the Savage Club took place on 12 October 1857, after a letter was sent to prospective members.

The letter advised it would be '"a meeting of gentlemen connected with literature and the fine arts, and warmly interested in the promotion of Christian knowledge, and the sale of exciseable liquors'"

>'When about a dozen of our original members were assembled in the place selected for their meeting, it became a question what the Club should be called. Everyone in the room suggested a title. One proposed the “Addison”, another the “Johnson”, a third the “Goldsmith”, and so forth. At last, after we had run the whole gamut of famous literary names of the modern period, a modest member in the corner suggested the “Shakespeare”. This was too much for the gravity of one of the company (the late Robert Brough) whose keen sense of humour enabled him, in the midst of our enthusiasm, to perceive that we were bent on making ourselves ridiculous. “Who are we,” he said, “that we should take these great names in vain? Don’t let us be pretentious. If we must have a name, let it be a modest one—that signifies as little as possible.”

>Whereupon a member called out, in a spirit of pure wantonness, “The Savage”. Robert's sense of humour was once again tickled. “The very thing!” he exclaimed. “No one can say that there is anything pretentious in assuming that name."

Famous members are:
King Edward VII
Alexander Fleming (noble prize scientist)
Earl Mountbatten

The Truce of God or Treuga Dei had its origin in Normandy.

The Peace and Truce of God was a movement in the Middle Ages that applied spiritual sanctions to limit the violence of feuding and against peasants, women, and children.

Children and women (virgins and widows) were added to the early protections. It prohibited nobles from invading churches, from beating the defenseless, from burning houses, and so on.

The Peace of God prohibited fighting on Sundays and feria (feast days on which people were not obliged to work).

This prohibition was subsequently extended to specific days of the week, viz., Thursday, in memory of the Ascension, Friday, the day of the Passion, and Saturday, the day of the Resurrection.

By the middle of the twelfth century the number of proscribed days was extended until there was left some eighty days for fighting all year.

The eighteenth-century British historian Edward Gibbon, interpreting Tacitus, Germania §40, detected a parallel among the pagan German tribes who worshipped a goddess of the earth:
>"During her progress the sound of war was hushed, quarrels were suspended, arms laid aside, and the restless Germans had an opportunity of tasting the blessings of peace and harmony. "

The ideal of lasting peace was especially advocated by Christian church officials throughout the centuries.

The Treaty of London in 1518 was a major non-aggression pact between the European nations.

The treaty reflected considerable glory upon the reign of its designer, King Henry VIII. It allowed Henry VIII to greatly increase his standing in European political circles, to the extent that England became seen as a third major power.

All European countries except for Islamic Turkey were invited to London (Russia was not considered to be a part of Europe, but of Asia at that time).

The treaty hoped to bind the 20 leading states of Europe into peace with one another, and thus end warfare between the states of Europe. It was then ratified by other European nations and the Pope.

Wars broke out in a few years including wars between Denmark and Sweden. The peace movement however continued for next centuries and became part of the Enlightenment movement in the 18th century.

When Columbus' proposal was initially rejected, Isabella I of Castile convoked another assembly, made up from sailors, philosophers, astrologers and others to reexamine the project. The experts considered absurd the distances between Spain and the Indies that Columbus calculated.

The monarchs also became doubting, but a group of influential courtiers convinced them that they would lose little if the project failed and would gain much if it succeeded.

The Capitulations of Santa Fe between Christopher Columbus and the Catholic Monarchs were signed in Santa Fe, Granada on April 17, 1492.

They granted Columbus the titles of Admiral of the Ocean Sea, the Viceroy, the Governor-General and honorific Don, and also the tenth part of all riches to be obtained from India.

That's basically it, though. Take Bangers and Mash as an example of my point. Classic dish. Let's take a close look though - its a tubular chode-looking meat cylinder on top of some mushed up potatoes. It is lacking of any colour or aesthetic superfluousness - it is simply a balanced and pretty tasty meal.

If the french invented Bangers and Mash they'd probably have some plating system for how the bangers were supposed to be laid out, and they'd have some colourful vegetables mixed in there, and probably do something fancy with the potatoes.

>hearing foodies and chefs talk actually makes me cringe

Same here, and I don't know what causes this, but boy, do I ever feel it.

I was seeing my extended family over Christmas break, and the hosts (my aunt and uncle, childless champagne socialists, guardian subscribers, travellers, and "wineaholics") decided that in lieu of turkey et al we would have this strange mishmash of different side dishes and appertifs from the world over. All sorts of little jars housing different tastes that you were supposed to apply to various parts of your tongue in a very specific order. A dozen or so different cheeses, including a very expensive cave cheese with crystallized mold. A fondue with various small edible things to immerse in. Chocolate covered nuts with caramel, Himalayan salt, and other unnecessary condiments to dip them in.

And I sat there for forty minutes watching all my relatives slowly chew, roll their eyes up in bliss, and let out little "ohhh"s and "mmmhmm"s. And then listen to the sounds of open mouth, and then shut mouths when they were full of something quite viscous like caramel, smacking away with that globular sound.

Absolutely fucking disgusting. Foodies are the worst fucking people who belong on the lowest level of hell. God got it wrong - gluttony is in fact the deadliest sin.

The Maya civilization developed in an area that encompasses southeastern Mexico.

Classic Maya social organization was based on the ritual authority of the ruler, rather than central control.

During the 9th century AD, the central Maya region suffered major political collapse. Both the capitals and their secondary centres were generally abandoned within a period of 50 to 100 years.

One by one, cities stopped sculpting dated monuments. Squatters moved into abandoned royal palaces and Mesoamerican trade routes shifted.

No universally accepted theory explains this collapse.

After the death of Frederick II in 1250, the German kingdom was divided between his son Conrad IV (died 1254) and William of Holland (died 1256). Conrad's death was followed by the Interregnum, during which no king achieved political supremacy.

Princes began to consolidate their holdings, becomming even more independent.

The Imperial crown was contested between Richard of Cornwall, son of King John of England, supported by the Welf party, and Alfonso X of Castile, who was recognized by the Hohenstaufen party, but never set foot on German soil.

After Prince Richard's death in 1273, the Interregnum ended with the unanimous election of Rudolf Hapsburg. Rudolf was the first king of the Romans of the Habsburg dynasty.

The dog was the first domesticated species. It's domestication took place in modern Switzerland in 13000 BC. Their long association with humans has led dogs to be uniquely attuned to human behavior.

Domestic dogs preform complex behaviors, such as bite inhibition, whereby the animal learns to moderate the strength of its bite.

Ancient wolves, and their dog descendants, would have derived significant benefits from living in or near human camps.

Humans would also have derived enormous benefit from the dogs associated with their camps.

The archaeological record shows the first undisputed dog remains buried beside humans 14,700 years ago.

99.9% of times I didn't. I can only think of 2 times I actually did something bad (I don't mean embarrassing I mean that I did something that hurt/offended a friend of mine), I'm a very happy/friendly drunk, but still, I'm always worried in the morning.

Yeah, I'll be alone. Are drugs easy to find?

Not really good looking by Western standards and 5'11 king of manlets. Really just want to check out the architecture and rent a motorbike to explore.

Well then that settles it every alcoholic is just like your family.
>>
>>73697194
i know what an alcoholic is you utter dropkick. a family friend is an absolute raging alcoholic who used to call our house 3 or 4 times a week screaming and crying after a long hard day on the bottle. there were a couple who would hang out at the rugby club who would go full sperg at the end of the night after a long session.

it's my anecdotal evidence versus yours, and seeing as mine goes against some completely blanket statement that is just simply not true, then you're wrong.

I've stopped worrying about it. I just do the check for my phone and wallet and make sure the front door is closed when I wake up.

Worst things I've done all involve falling over and injuring myself or knocking tables over, harmless really.

I've gotten into the habit of buying a 750ml bottle of wine and a 375ml spirits and drinking half of each Friday and Saturday.

5 glasses of red wine and 3 wine-glass full of Whisky/Rum/Brandy twice a week.

Aussies have this massive reputation for drinking and they truly believe it it seems but I can tell you right now average middle aged British women (especially from the North) could outdrink your average Aussie bloke.

The two worst things I did

1. got wanked off by my mates girlfriend (we arent mates anymore shockingly)
2. got literally thrown out of a club (don't remember anything but hitting the floor), woke up with my debit card gone and the condom i kept in my wallet gone. No idea what happened but I can guess it probably involved offering sex up to a barmaid while they had my card to pay for drinks
