Well, one time when I was like six I saw a magician at some event for kids this guy put a dove in a tin can with holes in it and then put big accupuncture style needles through those holes. I'm a mother of 3 and me and the hubby are looking for a place to move in the south! it's so cheap compared to these crowded NY suburbs! anyways, me and hubby came a cross an article talking about all the northerners moving south, so we figrured we might join in since it's SOOO cheap! :)
we have good northeast jobs so we'll probably be able to afford any house you have down there. we are looking to move to a transitioning republican-to-democrat area because hubby and I are very strong, outspoken liberals!
also, do you guys have any salad restauraunts down there? southern food will make me look a bit too big around the belly so we're going to support some greener options :)

I know, but I was under the impression that dixie referred to the deep south, like alabama, where the CSA capital initially was. I don't know where I got that idea though.

you're half right have wrong, it usually does refer to the Deep South when people use it in regular speech, but actually "Dixie" is a set-in-stone geographically defined area, the name refers to the Mason-Dixon line and refers to everybody south of that line. The line is the border between Pennsylvania and Maryland, but obviously that's problematic because Maryland really isn't a Southern state anymore.

So basically nobody really agrees on what Dixie is, but the Deep South is the only region that's included 100% of the time.

Personally, I would say it's everything that is a dark shade of red here >>73622256 plus Oklahoma.

Yeah that makes sense. The American civil war is super interesting, I ran a tabletop RPG around it a few months ago so I studied it a lot.

Not as much as we should. My history teacher mostly focused on the lead up to the war and what caused the divisions but he didn't talk much about the war itself

Not so much the actual war, unfortunately, but more the political divisions that caused it, what secession is, reconstruction, etc.

We did have multiple trips to battlefields and museums though, and the only thing that we spent more time on in history class was state history.

I've always liked the american civil war because it's very unique.

And yeah I run a Call of Cthulhu (horror) tabletop RPG for some friends. It's usually set in a private detective's office in 1990s Baltimore, this was a sort of bonus episode, one of the characters is in a coma and so we had a campaign set in the civil war where they all played their ancestors.

The players were soldiers of the Army of the Potomec sent to investigate missing Union POWs. It involved the confederate surgeon general being a servant of nyralahotep and using prisoners for zombie experiments, and a reanimated Stonewall Jackson was sort of the boss fight. Was a very fun campaign.

It's never too late. But it can be hard to find a good group to play with. I'm lucky that all my best friends from high school have similar tastes and we have similar play styles (more about the roleplaying rather than the rules and killing goblins etc).

Honestly tabletops have a nerdy reputation, but if you find a good group, have a few drinks, there's no better RPG experience you can have.

And yeah if you like writing, running them is a good creative outlet, although it can be a lot of work, that campaign I was talking about took weeks of preparation. But I did pretty much make it from scratch.

I had a neighbor when I was a kid who would run games at his house, he had half his basement dedicated to it and shelves full of figurines. It was pretty based, sometimes he'd let me come over and paint them.

Never thought to ever actually try it myself, but I have some friends that probably would be interested. I'm sick to death of vidya RPGs anyway.

Think about running one for them then. And be mindful that you don't have to do full voices and accents etc, just roleplay to the extent that you're comfortable, especially at the start.

If you go on /tg/ you can often find threads with people sharing PDFs, there are tabletop systems for a SHITLOAD of settings, it's a lot more than Dungeons and Dragons. But some systems are FAR more complicated than others. The first TTRPG I played was Call of Cthulhu, but the first proper campaign I played was Game of Thrones.

Have a think about running one if you can get a few people who are interested. But do some research and get some advice before doing it, it's not super easy being a good GM (game master).
