I have never used anything besides a pad.
But I can see why would people prefere a stick.
It makes those clicking sounds.

Depends on the game, i prefer the more tactile feedback from a stick in games where input mistakes are costly, like fighting games, everything else i use controller, steering-wheel or mouse and keyboard.
