I didn't brush my teeth for 4 years or see a dentist but I went to an appointment with one back in January and all I had was a chipped tooth. I was probably lucky since I don't drink soft drinks though

You likely consume artificial sweeteners on a daily basis as they are in everything processed. Even regular fizzy drinks use artificial sweeteners. It's probably the lack of sugar taste you don't like, as most people are addicted to simple sugars.

I think you're overestimating their prevalence. I have an empty can of coke here, and it doesn't list artificial sweeteners, just cane sugar.
