The first of many Japanese companies to fall. Japan is over.

Aging population. Companies are filled with middle aged men who have no creativity and are not up to date with what the modern world wants. No innovation.

South Korean and even Chinese companies are starting to outdo us and buy out our companies (like Toshiba)

I don't think Japan will become third world, but our superpower days are over.

You were never a superpower, Toshi. You were always that weird country who didn't get colonised because they had nothing anybody wanted and got uppity over it. Chinese dominance is not some "usurption" of your Japanese-dominant default: it is a return to the natural order of things.

Japan probably had a higher GDP than the USSR in the 80s making it the second strongest economically in the world. They never used that power to push around others and ensure their dominance though so they never made it. Japanese politeness strikes again.

Don't be so overly sensationalistic, Toshiba is just one company.

Imagine if you applied that same mentality with a company like Kodak. Just because Kodak failed, doesn't mean that suddenly the US is ded. It's literally just one company.

Sure, Japan's glory days of the 1980's are long gone, and Japan faces many challenges for the future. But fact remains that Japan has still mostly been able to sustain slight growth for the past few years, still has one of the largest economies in the world (even on a per capita basis, it's still competitive with Western European countries), still has a very good HDI, very low poverty and unemployment, still dominates many technological areas (including creation of new patents), has arguably the world's best infrastructure, and despite Trump being president is still buddy-buddy with the world's leading superpower.

Flash memory is a lucrative division, as its demand (for smartphones, SSD, etc) has been increasing.
Also, this deal has special significance for Toshiba, because it's the inventor of flash memory.

The US has been the only super power since the fall of the USSR and prior to that the the USSR and USA were the only superpowers since the end of WWII. Show me how Japan left international relations and pushed around other countries across the world. Their money isn't anywhere as relevant as the dollar or even the euro. They have no real military or any ability to project force beyond their borders or ability to threaten other nations with military reprisal. They are an important regional power, but certainly not a super power.
>>
>>73441905
That's not too bad. It's not like you've sold an entire company (and multiple brands) to one of the shittiest automakers in europe.

You guys never had the population to challenge the US or the USSR. If nips successfully colonised, parts of SEA, and became a nation of 200 million+,then maybe Japan could have been a superpower. Japan is pretty much just a bigger Germany.

japan

Honestly the nips better sort out their problem. I could definitely see a war with the chinks in the near future.
